Question about suggest items for Inarius Necro

For full Inarius’ set necro, obviously bone armor is the main damage dealer. I see people suggesting to use Bane of the Trapped as a legendary jewel (20% increase damage), using Krysbin’s Sentence as a ring (100-300% damage increase to status-impacted monsters), using the grandeur ring. (1) As far as the Bane of the Trapped, why wouldn’t a royal flawless topaz be a better option since it would be +280 intelligence (280% dmg increase)? The same applies to the Krysbin’s Sentence ring. I understand Krysbin’s can get 100-300% damage increase upon status-impacted monsters, but why not have a totally different ring and just toss a royal flawless topaz into it for +280 intelligence on the item for more consistent damage across the board? (2) What item would ya’ll suggest to use if I’m using the grandeur ring and can now replace a set item with a different item?

I’m somewhat new, but just wondering the answers to this kinda thing. There are other suggestions that seem odd to me. Many are suggesting utilizing items or legendary gems that have “dmg increase %” versus me just putting a royal flawless topaz into something and adding 280 intelligence. Why can’t I just use topaz in most cases? Wouldn’t that be better? :grimacing:

You’d get a 280 increase in total intelligence, but not a 280% damage increase. take total intelligence before the topaz and add 280. Divide the result by total intelligence before adding the topaz. The result is the amount damage is increased by the topaz.

Google maxroll d3 character planner.
Create 2 versions of your builds (A / B test).
Hover the damage of the skill.
Look at the formula.

I thought it was Death Nova Blood Novas cast from Simulacrums from Haunted Visions amulet and with free Novas from Siphon Blood etc. etc…

And you can use the Ring of Royal Grandeur to fit in the Guardian set for more damage. Look at the maxroll guide:

And also look at the leaderboards for inspiration, where you can see each player’s equipment in detail.

A few tips from someone who’s been playing this game for a while now…

  1. Read the descriptions for what they are.
  2. Know when % damage is additive and when it is multiplicative (requires a bit of reading on forums/maxroll)
  3. In endgame, don’t trust the in game assistance when it comes to knowing what is an increase in damage and what isn’t. Those arrows don’t mean much as they don’t calculate the effects of multipliers from legendary effects.

If you can get your head around these things, it’ll go a long way towards understanding how builds are set up the way they are.

Addition to the above, any affix that is indicated by a orange bullet point, will not be calculated into expected margin of toughness, damage and recovery increase on equip. For example, most builds benefit from Area Damage% affix when their main skill have any kind of proc coeff, (again, you need to research about proc coeff) but AD% always appear with orange point and won’t be calculated into the margin of benefits on equip listed under the tooltip.
