Still better than yours.
Let’s not forget the themes are going on rotation after S29. Some themes prior to the Altar are also super powerful. The balance with those combined with the Altar makes everything super easy.
Is it fun if you can just walk through enemies doing nothing and they just die? I certainly don’t think it is. D3 has very little challenge as it is (even without the Altar), making the Altar permanent just kills the very little challenge there is left. Being able to overcome a challenge is fun but if there’s no challenge, where’s the fun?
Your “fun” ain’t fun for me. And dudge by the posts here your “fun” ain’t fun for others either.
Make the Altar permanent for non season, it’s really hard to go back after experiencing it.
In new seasons deactivate the potion slots in favor of the regular season theme.
I’d also love to be able to activate old seasonal themes for non season, so that I can choose which one to play
The balance of a game that is basically becoming a second thought? You think anyone at Blizzard is worried about D3? As far as we know we aren’t getting any new content EVER, just reruns, who cares about “balance” who are you competing against? I’m competing against the monsters and I could care less how overpowered I am when I’m slaughtering them.
From here on out all seasonal content is made permanent after the season ends, stacking overpoweredness on top of overpoweredness. I’m serious, fun multipliers in NS.
One small problem…
At some point you will be able to do gr150 at paragon 0.
After three grifts the game will feel so boring that:
A. You will demand higher difficulties to make it fun again.
B. You will get so bored that you quit the game all together.
Then it would make sense to only have the altar in non season if only just to spice things up.
On a more serious note: I see a “problem” with some of the returning themes. Some of them were only really powerful because the accompanying patch made some builds extremely powerful (like firebird with mirror images and monk with fire allies and several other builds from other classes). In the following patches these build were nerfed or destroyed. So when the theme returns these builds will no longer be possible unless the old, original patch is employed along with them.
A: It’s impossible.
B: Haven’t quit yet after almost 6 month.
I would quit long time ago if we didn’t have the altar.
One reason to bring altar off-season is making GR150 pushes a bit easier. Even with the Altar it’s still pretty hard.
If you refer to the QoL features I have to agree that without them going back will feel weird.
As to your answers you seem to miss my point, with continuous power increase there will be a point where the game gets so easy that you WILL get bored!
Ex play normal mode at paragon 800 or more. How fun is it after 5 minutes?
It must been about 10 years ago I hit paragon 800 on nonseason. On my nonseason account. Still play it. And I preferred to play nonseason over season. I got this account to play season last season. Horse crusader and spin2win DH was too fun to pass on. And this season I played alot season just because the altar. So it’s alot of fun after 5 minutes.
And before you ask why I have 2 accounts. It’s because the lack of stash space.
You play in easy and normal mode?
Edit. @MrJim Edit2
What I am trying to explain is that if you can make top level content so easy as p800 doing normal mode it will get boring fast.
I did. You wasn’t here at release I guess.
I think this should become base line:
By your definition, every player that has accomplished a solo GR over 50 is a truly rubbish player, as all that have accomplished that are because of extra power and toughness that has been added to the game and/or botting/THUD. Altar is no different than all the permanent buffs that have been added to the game over the years.
Making GR150 possible without botting or playing 10+ hours a day every day for months may be a bad thing in your opinion, but for most of us, it is a good thing.
Balance has always been terrible. The baseline has been moved like 20 times. Moving it 1 more won’t break the game any further that it already has been broken.
Bumping up the numbers for the sake of bumping up the numbers is the definition of D3. It has been idiotic for 12+ years.
