Perusoe's Testing Grounds

Go to your Code block above. Copy all of it into Word.

Then highlight it all and copy to Excel

From there copy to the forum.

Not sure about the underscores and stuff, but the rest of the basic chart should work. It took me under a minute to just copy paste the section I did.

Everything in that code block was copied from Word and pasted directly here. Shouldn’t I just paste that into Excel?

Okay, I just pasted directly into Excel. When I did, everything was already selected so I just copied it. Now, I’m going to paste it below. Here goes:

Word has all your TAB marks. When you paste to Excel it takes those tab marks and puts stuff in columns for you. When you copy from Excel it adds the forum formatting for you.

Word > Excel > Forum :stuck_out_tongue:

Takes only a few mins and is FAR easier than having to re-format and re-type a whole big doc or table.

Okay. Well it didn’t seem to work when I edited my previous post. So, let me try again.

I will have to play with it some more too. I had no problem doing it the first time, but I just tried it again and it is not translating the tabs to columns between word and excel. Not sure what is different yet between this and the first one I tried.

Ok, this time I went back to your first post where you had the code block. Copied it all to word then to excel then to here. Added column titles.

Edit again - so it does some odd wrapping, but other than that it was a quick transition. Hmm… Still not sure why it worked copying from the first code block and not the second. Tias is probably right.

Still useful to know we can easily take things from Word to Excel then here, or build simple tables in Excel and paste them here.

Probably a random white space on either side of a copied item/block. Getting that tons with copypastas into the forum editor now. Seems to be a bug with this version of the Discourse software that isn’t present on the WoW side.

Oh, and don’t feel bad about the words wrapping around. Without the ability to properly style the cells/headers thanks to them using HTML 5 mode and no CSS available (almost all HTML 5 arguments require CSS functions), it’s going to keep doing that.

Yeah. As you can see (above), I’m getting the same result I got when I just pasted the document straight from Word. So, at this point, copying it into Excel seems like just an extra step.

I originally spelled everything out in that chart. Like for the date, instead of β€œ12/30/2016” I had β€œDecember 30, 2016”. I later started abbreviating after we got new server hardware and forum software.

To get that chart to fit on these forums I would probably have to abbreviate some more. Like β€œFriday” to β€œFri”. Even then, I’m not sure it would fit.

For that particular chart, it would be easier for me just to link to it.

Wow. You’re getting closer.

Try abbreviating times from β€œ8:00” to β€œ8”, etc.

What browser are you using. It displays correctly here. Mobile? I am on PC.

I’m on a PC running Firefox. It looks great, just a little cramped.

Edit: You know, the more I look at it, the better it looks. Fine just the way it is.

To clarify something, because I may be missing this…

You need to be at T3 to be able to post some of this in this formatted style?

I don’t think so. You only have to be TL2 or TL3 to embed videos, images and clickable links. But, even TL1 can post links to videos and images. You just have to paste the link in your post, select it and then click the </> button on the Reply Editor toolbar.

I haven’t really studied it at length. But, one mistake I notice is the row between Season 4 and Season 5. It is supposed to indicate a new Patch between Seasons and yet it’s showing β€œ124” days. The β€œ124” days should be in the row for Season 4. That may have just been typo when tweaking the formatting.

Edit: Sorry, DogBone. I wasn’t directing that at you. Just using your comment as a reference.

Edit 2: My apologies to @MissCheetah. There is no typo. The chart is correct. And excellent job by the way!

That is not a typo. I did not actually adjust that in any way. You decided to have the season duration listed with the end of season date  Not my decision! This is how you formatted it. I literally just copied it. I added the headers, and shortened times and days. I left all the formatting intact.

I think your intent was to show that Season started with one patch, but ended with another.

You are absolutely right. I’m so sorry.

I was referring to tables and layouts that you all were posting here. I knew that links and images required T2/T3. I just also knew that all of you are already set at T3 so wasn’t sure. lol

I know that. And I answered you:

To be clear: Trust Level 0 and above can post any HTML code as long as it’s supported in these forums.

The rest of my post was just explaining what you need TL2 and TL3 for. Which is: Embedding Videos, posting clickable links, embedding images and creating wikis.

Here are two excellent guides for most of the HTML codes you can use on these new forums:
