I can’t imagine anyone was unhappy to learn that unique items will be altered to match their icon appearance, but I wonder if this change will make it over to the mercs as well? I wouldn’t go so far as to give them armor visuals (although I wouldn’t oppose the notion), but I think it’d be neat if they benefited from the new weapon visuals.
I think an Act 2 merc would look hilarious jabbing everything with the blunt end of a thresher.
They sure would… the most elaborate way I could envision this change would be to assign a 3 tier appearance system to mercs based on Diablo 1’s design, where instead of their appearance being based on their specific gear, it’s based on Light/Medium/Heavy armor. Not necessarily an easy task but not an impossible one either.
Of course, in the spirit of keeping the Old Way an option at all times, an “Enhanced Mercenary Appearance” menu option would be the final touch.
Edit: I’d love to know why I have to keep manually reinstating the quoted text in my posts that for reasons unknown keeps getting auto-removed from my post…
Yeah, I think it would be cool to see the equipment visually change the merc. The merc could use a few changes also a page showing their advanced stats too.
I think it should optional though. A checkbox new way or old way. Not everyone wants stuff like this, but might want the new visuals for everything else
Exactly! Little stuff like this that some people would get a kick out of are fine so long as it exists as an option.
One of the most frustrating things about D3 for me was the inability to turn off a lot of unnecessary screen and speaker clutter (minimap, massacre bonuses, etc) that took me out of otherwise engaging moments. D2 thankfully doesn’t have that sort of visual clutter, but if the devs end up adding things like floating numbers or significant visual changes like mercenary appearance, I cannot understate the importance of adding a simple “On/Off” to the menu.
They’ve already done this with the auto-gold option so hopefully other such changes will come with that same degree of player control.
I’ve been looking forward to this feature since 2000. No Joke. I think reading item visuals to figure out what someone/some merc is wearing is a wonderful part of the game, a type of meta. It adds yet another tier of complexity for those who want it, another type of meta, another type of customization, another thing that makes D2 awesome.
As mentioned above a little checkbox that turns it on/off would satisfy any naysayers.
I know it is probably a lot of work to skin all of the items for the 4 merc classes…
and more work to add in new swing animations for weapon classes…
If you can do this D2REMASTERGODS, then I’ll deliver your dominos for 20 years
