Just starting out

Never played a Diablo game before. Always was interested but never got around to it since I was busy with stuff like Guild Wars.

Anyway I just got it for the Switch and of course the question a million people have asked before, what class should I start out with? Im generally not too into just straight forward melee tanks. In games like Skyrim for example I always like playing a battlemage type character. Can use melee weapons but mix it up with some magic to get a variety and be able to handle most situations. Any ideas about what class I should try first?

Wanted to mention that after some reading, the necromancer sounded like something that I might be interested in. Sounds like they can use magic, but also have scythes, so is this class a good starter class for a beginner, and would it be considered a battlemage type class?

The wizard class is very beefy and so much damage. Usually wizards are the ones that push the highest greater rifts.

I always advice my friends to start with Demon Hunter Impale. It is one of the easiest builds to level up and play. And the Shadow set happens to be the one given for free in the current season (17), so go for it (you still have 4 days)

Well Im actually not getting the game until tomorrow, so technically I wont really get much time in on it til Friday. If I miss this season, does one start right after that?

Im not too clear on what seasons are, but I did see someone say I should play that first to get better loot. Is that true?

start as a crusader than you be frustrated over almost anything be it skills items build… you ask yourself why this class is so stupid & hard to play

than switch to another class you be amazed how well you can play in that class because of the crusader hard ship you have been :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok thats good to know. I guess I shouldnt get too hung up on the battlemage idea. Thats just usually what I lean towards in RPGs. So im assuming the wizard class doesnt really do melee damage, just ranged magic damage?

no worries about season it is Season S17 or S18 anyways just get your free set first so in Non Season NS you can use that build to farm other stuff so pick your 1 & only free set from here

yup read all about it

have fun tomorrow grinding

It takes only a few hours to get to level 70 and then complete the 4 chapters of the season journey to get your free set. You have until Sunday 18 August at 5pm to do that before Season 17 ends. Then there will be one (or two) weeks off-season. Season 18 will most likely start on Friday 23 August, or on 30 August at the latest.

Little confused about what youre saying since Im new. Idk exactly what you mean when you say get a free set. Idk how any of this works but I guess I should just dive in and figure it out.

I also dont really understand if I should just go and do the campaign first or do whatever these seasons are.

Just start a seasonal character and you will be guided with objectives to complete to get your free set of 6 green pieces (two in Chapter II, two in Chapter III, and the last two in Chapter IV of the season journey). The objectives are pretty easy.

Sounds good. So after I do that, I can bring that gear into campaign mode? I want to play the campaign for the story.

And does a season start right after the current one ends? Like how long do they plan on doing these seasons? I know the game has been out for years but Im just getting it on the switch.

Sure, that gear will stay with you in all modes. As stated above the next season starts one or two weeks after the previous one ends. And each season lasts about 3 months.

I’d favor the Monk mate…tanky and can do melee or ranged attacks but focuses on dexterity so speed.

All other classes are simply fillers.

You can do the story mode in or out of season, it doesn’t matter. In fact, some seasons have a conquest you can earn for completing the story in under an hour (speed run - and the story is not that short so this is a pretty huge accomplishment). Even after you have run the story, you can go back and restart it at any act/quest that you have already completed (which is helpful for earning accomplishments that only trigger during certain quests in the story).

The items you farm and earn in a given season are only visible to your seasonal characters until the season ends. Then all of your seasonal characters are converted to non-seasonal and your entire stash is mailed to your non-season world.

So, there is no “bring the gear to campaign mode”, since the story is available both in and out of season. But there is a big “send the items to non-season mode” that happens at the end of a season.

Also, with you being on switch, there is no requirement for you to do campaign. so you can do it in your leisure time on non season, but create a seasonal toon just to work on the requirements, and when you are possibly offline, just play the non seasonal toon.

stuff is not shared between them until the time between seasons.

Which Guild Wars? Old time Guild Wars player here. Ran Sin Tank for many Dungeons including DoA speed runs.

If you never played before…don’t worry about soaking up all the different build ideas and all…just have fun and play the game…

And FWIW…don’t listen to any who say, “you can power level up to 70 in no time flat” or “you can reach this and that in no time flat”…Play the Game and Enjoy it especially the first go around.

And all the classes are FUN…and each has a pro & con…FUN classes are like the Witch Doctor and Necromancer with Demon hunter right there using animals, bugs, zombies, birds, spiders and such…always a good laugh. with Animal Kingdom or Zombieville in tow…

First. I mostly played a wells necro.
