If D2R is too different from D2, Blizz will be criticized. If not, Blizz won't be criticized

Have you met the people who are complaining already that D2R is not different enough?

It doesn’t matter what Blizz does, they will receive criticism.

Exactly.

1. The reddit survey showed that the vast majority of self-reported D2 players (94%) want changes among respondents.
2. Moreover, Blizzard is apparently concerned if they do not make changes they will ruin the experience for new players. It seems to me in D2R, they will need to keep the option to play an authentic D2 to avoid W3R blowback and a less-authentic D2 version for the vast majority of old players who are progressives as well as new players.

In one of the news reports about D2R, it seems that Blizzard is worried about striking the right balance.

Outside of all the technical reasons you might want to hold a tech test, Blizzard is particularly interested in feedback on game balance. From the sound of things, the studio is undecided on whether keeping certain elements unchanged would maintain the original vision, or ruin the experience of new players unfamiliar with them.

Thinking about the quoted statement and if it is accurate, what D2 element might ruin the game for new players that were unfamiliar with it?

Lastly, Blizzard sent out a survey that seeks player feedback on 7 potential changes (some already announced and some unannounced). There are:

1. Remap keybinds
2. Shared stash
3. Auto gold pickup
4. Dedicated charm inventory
5. Balance changes to items
6. Balance changes to skills
7. Personal loot instead of FFA loot
