I don’t want to be a fat Druid

It’s amazing how accepting people have become of a totally unhealthy and abnormal body in the US. If you look back at pictures of Americans from the 60s or 70s, such as those from the civil rights movement or at public beaches or even Woodstock, people didn’t look like land whales. Most of this turned in the late 80s/early 90s when certain changes within the food industry lead to the addition of increasing amounts of salt and sugar into commonly eaten food and a push to larger and larger portion sizes. It’s not unique to the US either. Anywhere a people have gone from eating a traditional diet, whatever their ethnicity and traditional diet, to eating this new highly processed “Western” diet, people have ballooned. It’s terribly unhealthy. It takes years off of your life expectancy.

Changing it is so incredibly difficult for people as well. So-called “body positivity” is one of the most destructive movements I can imagine. It seems like a kindness while in fact, it is exactly the opposite because it lulls people who are at real risk into complacency and discourages doing the hard work to reshape old habits into new, healthier ones.

It’s one thing to have fat people in a game as NPCs. That’s just showing the world around us but, the last thing we should be doing is celebrating it by depicting it as “heroic” to live like that.

So just because someone is fat, they can’t be heroic?

That’s not what I said at all, is it? You know that. Don’t twist my words. That’s a dishonest way to argue. I said it should not be depicted as heroic.

That is not the ideal male body. The ideal male body is the D3 monk. That is Andre the Giant RPing as a druid.

I will just leave this here…

I still think there should be an option for them to get fit looking with lots of battle and less time spent in town.

fat druid is cool. But there should be customization.

I honestly don’t mind playing a heavy Druid. However it’d be nice if players could freely chose their character’s shape and size so it could be an option for not just Druid but other classes also. For example, a player could choose to play a large heavy Sorcerer, rather than a thin one.

However, that’s sadly unlikely to happen since the amount of work for just the item appearances (since armor appears visually different for each class) alone would be substantial.

The female druid is hot.

The Druid is my favorite character in D2LOD and I guess in D4 I like playing one too.

One could argue whether a casting druid who doesn’t shapeshift should be as powerful. An option for some degree of physical appearance customization, should possibly be doable. However, that will then entail some things, like adjusting weapon sizes and armor sizes. So behind that there is also an additional programming effort.

I’m in a different camp here , I was thinking since PLD didn’t get released it might be cool to play the Necro without his pets so it make him personally stronger and play him more like a Dark Knight, however I don’t like how thin the Necro is. It would be nice to have some body sliders.

Blizzard dev’s have actually talked about this in past interviews with their games when designing models for say Starcraft or Warcraft 3, that the silhouette of a model should immediately be distinctive to your eye at glance so that it is immediately recognizable. This is probably more true for RTS’s specifically but that could be what is going on here. They had to figure out a way to distinguish the druid from especially the barbarian, the other “big” character model, but also not make him a slim character that he/she would be mistaken for the other slimmer classes such as the necro, sorc, rogue.

I don’t prefer playing as a tubby druid myself but I’m sure with end game gear on he/she will look pretty awesome regardless.

It’s about Repräsentation!

In real life, someone of this „bodytype” can barely run 20 steps without out of breath.

But Repräsentation is more important than making believeable complying worlds and chars these days.

I never feel the need to be represented, I normally pick the most asthetical pleasing, badass looking char when possible. But maybe others feel the need to be represented, and I good for them.

Anyway I put my money the female Druid will be the least popular chars.

I don’t think he’s fat. A lot of strongmen have a similar body shape. It’s just what you look like when you have muscle and are in a bulking phase. Good for staying warm in cold climates too.

Is it possible to play fat, dirty and ugly druid or sorceress in D4?

It would be priceless to see how disgusted Lilith was when she confront my “flawed” character in the game.

I strongly agree with that argument. Unfortunately Blizzard then abandons it with dollar signs in their eyes, when they add all kinds of crazy silhouette destroying cosmetics.

Stop being fatphobic…

as long as i get to customize the stunning and brave mundane away on the chars.

The 5 class choices are very limited. I have no interest in being a Rogue, Sorcerer or Necromancer. None of those classes have ever appealed to me.

I will enjoy the Barbarian, but it’s getting old. Over done, generic at this point.

Druid has been my desired choice since the announcement, but one thing has really bothered me. HE’S OBESE! He looks like something I have no interest ever being. I’m athletic and fit. Playing a fat character has never appealed to me.

It’s funny how they go on and on about character customization for looks, but being forced into being a fat dude is just oh well.

I’m rather certain Monk will be added in a DLC or expansions because it’s very unique compared to what the current line up is. Same with the Crusader or Paladin, whatever they choose to call it this time, because let’s be honest it’s very much the same thing.

The rogue is basically replacing the demon hunter and partially represents the assassin.

I don’t think we will see the Witch Doctor. Currently they have 3 Casters. Sorc, Druid, Necro. And the Necro covers the summoner. Maybe we see an Amazon at some point, but either way starting off I’m very underwhelmed by my choices.

That sure sounds like what you said. You don’t want to see a fat hero. While this is just a game, your views on what its like to be a fat person are extremely flawed.

That’s not what body positivity does at all. All it does is try to stop people from being fat shamed. That is not a bad thing. Fat people know it is unhealthy. We are not idiots. We have been fighting this battle our whole lives.

Do you know it is completely legal to discriminate against fat people in the US? Fat people are not a protected class. We are still the but of many jokes. But many of us are sick and tired of waiting to get healthy before living our lives. THAT is what body positivity does. It gives us permission to live our lives while still being fat. This is a much larger (no pun intended) conversation, but you should know your attitude is not helping.

I want to say thank you to for this, i feel better now
