I did take some time to look into this and it looks like this is a known issue:
I recommend doing as the blue post recommends and submitting a bug report so that the forums team can look into this and relay this to the Diablo 3 Armory team.
I know this is not the answer you were hoping for but Customer Support unfortunately does not have a way to change the way these mechanics work.
