How To Hardcore

LoL, when your hero dies you don’t know if the follower died and lost items.
If you follower was wearing a ‘can’t die’ token then he becomes a ronin , that has no hero, lord or master.
He/She will wander till they die a natural death or another monster finally figures out how to kill them.
You will never be able to look at your follower again.
That is why I did not mention follower gear.

Hopefully he/she will be more like Robert De Niro than Sean Bean.

Stuck on level 58, in Act II {Expert level}, on Hardcore with Barbarian. No matter how much I experience farm, I don’t seem to be getting much towards leveling. What should I be doing?

You should probably start a new thread…:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If you want, just in-game request for a power level.

Assuming you are in Adventure Mode:
Craft some gear for your current level. If you need mats quickly, do the Challenge Rift. Roll secondaries for +exp.

is this karhal the character your talking about? I’d suggest first looking at my levelng guide Simple Season Necromancer Leveling Guild Diablo 3 - YouTube i feel like its a pretty easy way to build up. “SORRY i for some reason i switched to your lower level necro but anyways still same thing upgrade your gear farm legendaries sets” Second you just need to get your gear started. not much going on there. i’ll try to help as much as i can so ask away.

Cool video. I wanted to point out how I took the gem of ease to the next level…

Once you can clear 35gr on easy mode you’ll want to be leveling all your gems to 25 of course, but after that I create a mule character to hold gems of eases.

Level one up, toss it in the stash, mule grabs it, then you go back and level another one, repeating until you have enough to turn a full set of lvl 70 bjorns set into lvl 1 requirement. Also turning an ancient with a socket into lvl 1 requirement and also socketing the gem.

This will speed up that run to 70 when you die. I make it my mission to make that grind the least painful as possible so the next thing I make sure is that I have a full extra set of the build that I’m using in the vault for when I do get that next 70 ready. :).

Hope this helps all the he players. Peace out.

I’ve been doing HC for about two years. Here are some more suggestions.

Just starting out - you will die several times. Try to save best lower level gear in your chest to use with your next character.

Return to town OFTEN to dump gear in case of death.

First goal is L70 on whatever level you can.

Start accumulating Paragon instead of higher play levels. These remain for the next character to use.

Dump as much as you can into Vitality to stay alive and play at the damage level that remains until you can feel risky again.

Gem of Ease at L25 x 18 (overkill, but consider as you get further along. Eventually it’s nice to have a full gear set at L1 for a new character plus Follower gear. Only the follower token must wait a few levels before it can be donned.)

Whatever set you like to run with, create an extra set to wear as soon as you can.

Create one character that can do T16 and use it to grow other characters. Don’t risk it until you have as strong a replacement in case it’s killed.

An ideal L1 set for a new character will include a Boon of the Hoarder (L50 = ideal) or Goldskin, Goldwrap, Custerian Wristguards, Leoric’s Crown with a Ruby and as many ancients as you can. This will max out your experience gathering. Eventually, you’ll be able to take a new character from 1 to 70 in less than an hour and be almost back to where you died.

Or you just get a friend to plevel you in two runs max. If you have friends, gem of ease is a waste of time.

lovely video <3 thanks for spending time on this!

been on hardcore since d1. played hardcore necro only on d2. naturally, i’m hc in d3 and i will do hc in other diablo franchise. i created normal toons for irl friends who do not have the emotional bandwidth to endure the endless cycle of being heartbroken after a goldilocks toon dying.

speaking of emotional bandwidth, it has always been my disclaimer for people asking about starting in hc – you’ll be hurt a lot! but i always tell them that if they can endure:

  • their government official’s bad decisions
  • their toxic significant other
  • their asian parents if they are asian too like me
  • keeping up with engineering courses and be fine with a 75% grade during majors
  • people chewing food with their mouths open
  • backstabbing friends

they can do hardcore.

kidding aside, here are my pieces of advise for new ones:

  • save up on gear but don’t hoard. i only keep 3 of each and burn the one with worst rolls if i find a new one. #mariekondo
  • sheet dps and toughness doesn’t always mean survivability. sometimes strategy and tactics will save you most of the time
  • pray to rngesus for good rolls, good maps, and good elites, mobs, rg
  • VERY IMPORTANT: check your ping before you play to avoid death. though there are spikes too, always kite back to where it’s safest.
  • create your own public games. don’t join random pubs. not sure if there are pk-ers in pubs as of this season but last season 4 (the last season i played before my loooonng hiatus), there were a lot. if there are players who are idle in town, check their gear. if they are wearing gear that’s built for toughness and not dps (not your typical z builds), leave the game.

hc will always be a learning experience <3

My friend tried hardcore mode once. When he died he never went back.

I downloaded D3 this season, played D2 lots back in the day. But came back to D3 S22 in HC. Sooo much fun to play HC, then when you die, Heartbreak! Gut wrenching anger, Soooo angry, I quit!!! Next day I start another character. Back in the swing of things. Its great, Learning more stufff… Death!!!. I turned to Softcore mode… it was so weak! There was no thrill in the game anymore! I went back for more HC death! I died quite a few more until PTR and really started testing the waters. I cant wait for season 23 to start. All of the above tips are great… I def learned to keep a backup set before forum. Eazytarget, dont think this post is directed at you, this is a forum with open discussion. Anyone can answer. Politely and kindly of course. Another thing…since Im a HC player exclusively… I cant stand watching people post youtube vid’s pushing High GR’s when all they do is DIE!!! Oh my… just gotta turn that off!!
Cheers my fellow HC fans! And bring on more heighten fun! Remember to blink or turn the game off to give your eyes a break. And remember not to drink while you Hardcore!!!
