Hope the starting challenge rift is an easy one!

Just tried it, and it worked well, both solo and in a group. As long as you’re not overzealous, it’s a fairly easy clear.

Sounds interesting. How fast is reaching of 70?

Saving the cache is not just about 1-70, but it also speeds up the post 70 stuff as well. You’re looking at adding 1-2 hours to get to the same spot as a person who uses their cache.

If you plan on playing at least 15-20 hours before the Challenge Rift resets, it makes sense to save it. If not, saving it is not really going to help you.

its not the fastest way to get to 70 but it saves hours later. lol

Saving the cache is greatly overrated, IMO. Cache is required for what, seal 15? Meaning you’ll need to clear a GR80, sac a Petrified Scream, sac a RoRG, sac a Ramalamadingdong, sac dozens of keys, 30 DB’s, etc. I maintain BehindTimes was correct when he said:

so you’re to blame?!
It’s always important to know who to blame! First rule of management!
Who cares about the solution?! Whose fault it is has to be determined first!!!

I’d rather sad that the only case you need to open CR cache is you pursue the highest spot in conquests ladders. All others - save. Even if you will play less than 15hrs in a first weekend. You just can play as you want and no extra CR.

To be honest, opening the cache doesn’t really save you that much time. I always save mine. It takes a little longer to level up to 70 but in the end, it’s not that difficult with the Altar. Also, I don’t have to worry what the next CR rift will be like.

I think it’s going to partly depend on how practiced you are with cache-less levelling strats.

Cache-less levelling is a bit more challenging, and inexperienced players probably have a larger gap between their cache times and cacheless times. They are also less likely to benefit from having the cache saved on opening weekend, because what’s 15-20 hours for a practiced season starter might be 30-40 hours for them.

I’d argue most slower, inexperienced players should probably use the cache, just to get through the levelling slog a bit faster.

If it’s 3-4 hours into the season and you haven’t hit 70 yet (assuming you’ve been playing that whole time, anyway), you’d probably benefit more from using the cache than saving it.

spot on. This past season I got lucky and was able to play a lot (for me) so I hit the CR cache node on the second weekend. If RL is busier, it will take me even longer. The only argument for keeping it would be that one never knows how bad next week’s CR will be.
I had some which were more than I could stomach in the past.

I honestly feel the season start is an issue where reality often doesn’t match perception. The amount of people who level to 70 in sub 2 hours vs the amount of people who say they level to 70 in 2 hours is typically vastly different.

It’s not necessarily a lie per se, more like an incorrect belief, as I do believe they believe it. My main issue is I feel this leads to bad advice, which can harm newer players, but at the same time, they’ll buy into the misconceptions as well.

But it becomes a situation of, even if saving it is bad advice and the wrong advice, sometimes it still might be the correct advice, as the point is for players to have fun.

The same holds true with stuff like getting Haedrig’s or even clearing a GR75. I mean, we have literal proof with the Divinity and Lionheart leaderboards, where only 63 players cleared a GR75 on Europe & Americas combined in Season 35 in under 4 hours, but hundreds, if not thousands, feel they can be a part of that.

Agreed.

I can see the nuance there: the idea of running an extra CR may be less fun to some than the idea of harder leveling to 70. However, my counter-argument would be that when it comes to generalized advice, one ought to prioritize the majority use case, and then add caveats for minority uses where appropriate.

Simply put, “most people” just will not reach node 15 prior to Monday’s CR reset, by which time MadTom et al will already have guides out for us to follow.

But in the end, I do concede your point that fun is the primary objective. If it’s more fun for some to save it, who am I to judge? I’m no Tyrael :upside_down_face:

Since I’ve started playing seasons back in 28, I’ve used the opening cache for leveling. Actually going to save it this time, since season coincides with my weekend off and I recently seen an old Rhykker video with the devs when they originally implemented the system and learned about class order on the rifts. DH will be next reset, and outside of GoD, I’m not familiar with/great with DH builds.

My plan this season is similar to last season, start with Monk and use LoD with Crudest Boots until I can cobble together PoJ. Farm up around 800-1000 paragon and open alter + farm mats to build Trag Oul Nova Necro. Saving Haedrig to do a Leapquake Barb on Hardcore to finish 3rd conquest, since I don’t feel like finding that Act 5 Cursed Chest, and don’t care for the timed speed runs through bosses or campaign.

After the altar update, ch rifts aren’t that helpful.

Also in EU we have to wait until Tuesday for ch rift resets. So i’m not gonna use it. I’m almost sure that I’ll be needing ch rift cache for the altar at Monday.

What time do seasons typically go live? I haven’t played in ages so kinda forgot. It’s 5pm west coast US right?

5PM PST today. To convert that to your time zone, check out this link:

Just modify what’s on the right to your local time zone and it’ll automatically update the time + date. For example, typing in “Japan” brings up JST which would be 6AM tomorrow for them

Omg the CR sucks this time

Which one? There’s three. (No one ever specifies what region or platform they’re playing on).

  • Americas
  • Europe
  • Asia

Of course, in this case Americas and console (regardless of Region) would be the same. (If I’m not mistaken).

Has to be the EU one with stone gauntlets… Even though I kept a good distance and spammed the free shield there are some sneaky monsters in the last room on map one that can slow you down and stop you (probably best to get away from that room fast if you can). I got held up a lot there. Fortunately the next map is much better and has lots of progress. I managed to succeed with about 10 seconds left.
Not sure I’m gonna play much this season though.
