[Guide] Zodiac Rend (Season 20)

I’ve had this happen on my ~9 year old laptop and it seemed to happen more than on my desktop so I assumed it was a performance issue with my laptop, but there could be more going on.

Hail Barbros!
Here my ¢5:

What elemental damage do you want on the amulet? It just says elemental damage on breakout on the first page- doesn’t specify which one.

Physical…

Physical indeed, I no longer believe that it’s Lightening.

In my (limited) experience, when I was doing my push, the killstreak effect damage to elites:

15 - chickens do about 1/3 or 1/2
30 - frost nova does nothing
50 - corpses do about 1/2
100 - tornados kill if they hit for a decent amount of time. Needs good positioning.
150 - geysers one-shot if they hit
200 - treasure chests do about 1/2
300 - ring of fire does very little
400 - rain of light always kills, multiple packs too
500 - angels do huge damage to single target, but kinda suck against large groups

In my opinion, the 400, 150 and 100 effects are the strongest. If you can manage 500 for the RG, that’s amazing too. (Or if you can proc 400 from adds that spawn.)

Going to 150 and intentionally dropping stacks should be a perfectly valid strategy.

Hey, can someone tell me why the istvan set generates 0 fury when using them it seems impossible to use them at all for me, I can’t even use any ability’s with it so I am wondering how other people are using this set I have also tried it with the weapons master doesn’t do anything.

We use windshear rune of ww. I run into the rift, pop iron skin and wotb just before first group of monsters and hold ww. Your character will auto attack, get some Fury and you can begin playing normally.

Weapon master works for mighty weapons in regards to generating Fury.

There is probably a better way so hopefully Free or Ulma weigh in with some ideas.

yeah thanks that seems to be the problem it also looks like survive ability is harder when using this set.

Way harder to get started after dying with ib

Have to look at your cooldowns and sometimes wait a bit longer to revive after death. Otherwise can just be repeat deaths over and over.

With regards to using boon, has anyone taken into account of while we are not using warcry (which gives us more ticks on wrath CD) and the amount of cooldown on items we have now. i have started to
not use it from 120-124 and have not noticed any downtime on wrath, even on single target RG. (im using wrath 6/6 + BK set up)

UPDATE

Part 2 of the OP contains a more detailed discussion of Rend mechanics with links to relevant tests and threads. The section on optimization has also been fully updated to discuss the different Armor and Weapon combinations.

Ambo’s + Doombringer looks like it’s going to be the best possible setup for weapons. Very cool times to spin to win.

Congrats!

The Seasonal killstreak bonus is incredibly powerful. For comparison, I’m fishing 125 in non-Season at 2.2k Paragon, and it’s very close to the upper limit of what I can do with my gear. The Seasonal theme is easily worth 1-2k Paragon in terms of damage potential.

I’ve been discussing this setup with a couple of people, but I’m not sold on it. You’d have to wear FnR, which means Zodiac will go in the Cube since you don’t wear Crimson’s. This build is going to be glassy since you’ll have to rely on IP + Wrath for DR. Seems like a combo only possible if you have the Paragon to back it up.

You use the element dictated by your Rend rune. Bloodbath (Physical) is the superior choice for pushing.

That is one of the huge disadvantages to the Crimson’s variant. If you die and Wrath is not off cooldown, you’re going to lose a massive chunk of time.

Boon is there partly to help with cooldowns in case of death. Watch what happens if you die just after activating Wrath and have to wait the extra time for it to come off cooldown.

If you decide not to use Boon, you can use a different passive of your choice, though none of the others are make or break.

Thanks Free. This is guide is amazing, its helped me out a lot. Got a 121 last night with ease. Just using 6/6 wastes and IB set up alot of fun. Those weapons help me out alot.

Yeah the pandemonium buff is fantastic. Slowly getting better at keeping an eye on it so i can time the streaks to go off with good packs.

Right, and what are you pulling off the bar to equip Stomp/Charge?

IP? You’re dead. Ancient Spear? Good luck with grouping. Battle Rage? Sayonara to that extra damage.

So I cleared GR 100 in the first week with level 60+ gems and 400 and a bit Paragon, but last week has been busy with work, and I’ve just been mucking around getting gear, leveling gems, doing the season journey etc.

Last night I got my gems to 100, and now have ancient BK and Istavans swords, so decided to run a test. Run 100 with BK Swords, 4:59, then with Istavans, 4 minutes flat.

I was shocked that there was such a large difference between them. I thought there may have been a bit of difference due to maps/density etc, but not a full minute.

Istavans swords just seemed to melt things so much faster than the BK swords.

30% damage = about 1 GR tier.

No doubt the IB set deals more damage, but the difference is not that huge. If you’re playing in Season, your clears are heavily skewed by the Season theme.

Agreed, but on the same level GR you wouldn’t think the season theme would be affected that much.

But in terms of how quick packs died, even without a season theme affect in progress, they seemed to die so much faster when I equipped the Istavans swords.

So much this. On non-seasonal I did a GR120 solo with a 3200ish paragon Barb, with mostly 575-600 STR augments (could do more, but the season started). I’ve already done a GR119 solo with my seasonal Barb, with under 1200 paragon and 450-500 STR augments, all because of the seasonal killstreak stuff.

No, the Season theme is ridiculously OP. Seriously, even with the nerf it got, those killstreak bonuses are ludicrous.

Well, more damage is more damage! But I’ve noticed that packs melt just as quickly when I Stomp them into an Oculus with Into the Fray.

I’m not saying that the IB set isn’t more powerful. It is stronger than the BK set, period, but the gap isn’t as large as many claim. And personally, I think Ambo’s + Doom might be the superior combo, but I haven’t been able to extensively test it.
