Then when i logged on today same issue. Plz help… Thank for your time.

i am having issues with my diablo 3, i keep getting disconnected in the middle of campaigns, raids, u name it yup, with error 1016 and its really annoying, i shouldnt be having this issue since my computer is less than a yr old, my internet is top speed that i can get from my provider…i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, same issue, i have done a scan n repair, same thing…help me please to resolve this issue

Hey there GrumpyKitten and Badgrandma,

It may be a different problem than the post this was originally at so I moved your responses to a new thread. Figuring out those 1016 errors and disconnections can be frustrating. I’d like to see if we can help fix or at least narrow this down. It may be an ISP issue, yet getting them to actually fix it without proof of a problem is awkward. What I’d like to do is get a Winmtr test ran that captures when this happens.

Just run the test for 3-15 minutes, restarting the test if nothing occurs in that time frame. When a problem happens, let the test run an extra minute and then end it. Save the results, then open the text file and paste them here between two ~~~ like so:

MTR Here

If you have issues pasting here, use Pastebin and post the end of the link. (ie. 123456 for pastebin.com/123456)

I just had this error message on a disconnect as well…

Previously I posted that I was getting DC’d from game. I researched and found some people get dc’s in game for network reasons… since I had been using spectrum I went out and bought my own router and modem.

Within the first half hour I was DC’d again on my new network.

I get 500 down and 25 up.

Two different networks.

Thanks,
Bara aka Tom

PS: This does not happen to me on other games I play from a steam account… just D3

I put a space between the . net and . coms because it said I couldnt post links in my comment.

Thanks,
Bara aka Tom

PS: I killed most of my IP at the top I didn’t want to leave it there and don’t think my IP address will be relevant.

Hey there,

I noticed the test was only run for 200ish seconds. Did the disconnect happen while this test was running? If not, could you run the test while playing the game until a disconnect happens? This will help ensure the test contains the problem data within it.

To help with posting the winMTR you may put three ~ marks above the winMTR to put it in a little block of text that doesn’t need to be edited further. Should look like this:

~~~
The winMTR will go here and look something like this.
Cheers!
Hi Kaldraydis,
Yes, I was disconnected in less than 5 minutes with the 1016 error.
That data should show it if there is something to see.
It was only my second try… I ran it for 5 min stopped no disconnected. Started over and second time running it I disconnected… I can do it again and let it run longer after the disconnect if needed.
Thanks,
Tom aka Bara
Hey @kaldraydis ,
I played from 1:35 pm eastern tz to 2:00 pm eastern tz without incident so I stopped the WinMTR and restarted it and restarted the game at 2:05 pm eastern and @ 2:09 pm eastern I was dc’d, I waited a good minute until 2:10 to hit OK where it off loads me to the screen that says.
There was an error. (code 1016)
Here is my WinMTR2 script… its 2 because I already provided 1 (I’m omitting the rest of my IP unless you would like it in an email for privacy reasons.
WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider
Hello Kaldraydis and Ironthorne,
I just wanted to thank you for your diligence and providing the player base options to provide feedback.
I’m not sure if your programmers looked at my data and others, however, I wanted to happily report that I have played for over 2 hours this afternoon… I completed all 5 chapters bounties and all 4 keywardens… holding my breath at the last instant before turning in waiting for a 1016 error.
I hope I am not jinxing myself. I just wanted to say thanks and let you know if you did it… it worked.
Thanks,
Bara aka Tom
I will keep you posted.
My pastbin of a 5 min test or so
Last 3 hours having bad latency issues from 80 ms to 1000 ms in town.
I am also having the same issue, the 1016. I also have the same issue with my Warcraft III Reforged game doing the same thing. I play for 3-4 minutes and it crashes and prompts me to log in again. I have downloaded the WinMTR tool, just unsure how to use it.
Hi, I’ve listed 2 runs now and yes 1016 happened in both. Do you need more examples?
The other day I posted it was fixed. I truly thought it was. I went 3 hours and then the next day another few hours without incident.
Today I came home from work and made it about 20 minutes and I had DC 1016.
I think its improved, however, its not 100% fixed.
Thanks,
Tom AKA Bara
GrumpyKitten - the WinMTR results show 5-6% packet loss occurring in the cogentco.com network which looks to be a backbone peer that your internet provider uses to route you to the Blizzard servers. This packet loss occurring along the route is very likely what’s causing the disconnections for you, so if you haven’t already you will want to notify your provider and have them look into this for you. It’s not something that is happening on your end or Blizzard’s end to cause this, it’s happening in the middle.
Barackis - One of your previous WinMTR results showed packet loss happening at the router. I suspect it’s a similar issue of packets being dropped at your home network or between your ISP and the Blizzard servers that’s causing this, but we would need to see newer WinMTRs to try and confirm.
Jambrix,
I’ve been busy with work… I will get you some new data.
I actually gave Spectrum back their router and modem and bought my own.
So this is a brand new set up that gets 480 down and 25 up all day on any tests and other games do not have this issue on Steam.
Thanks,
Tom AKA BARA
The new report is showing 2% loss between the computer and the router. The packet count drops from 325 to 320. I’m also seeing that the connection lost more data after the data leaves the router and goes to the ISP network.
If this is wireless please be sure to try wired first. Though if it’s a wired connection it may be worth contacting Spectrum and asking to test the connection with a different device. Please ensure they are aware the problem is an intermittent disconnect and not anything to do with lag or latency. If they do a ping test, let them know that ping tests typically do not show intermittent issues like this one. Show them the winMTR if possible.
Hope the info helps. Cheers!
Kaldraydis,
Hi, this is a wired connection. I originally was using spectrums router and modem… I then bought a new router and modem myself and still seeing the 1016’s … does this mean it has nothing to do with the equipment at all and just the signal itself coming into my home?
Thanks,
Tom AKA Bara
