From the Barb Community: DO NOT NERF REND

Free, did your chat with Nev leave you optimistic about Rend Barb from what was discussed?

You might be thinking of Cratic, kinda rhymes with Celtic.

o ya lol thx…

Yeah, this is why 0% on Lamentation absolutely demolishes the build. It will force us to rely much more on WW damage, which means we’ll be back to the core Zodiac build with Skull Grasp.

Not good.

Ha! Good question. I spoke to Nev tonight, but I’m in Central and she’s in Pacific, and there is a lot of bureacratic red tape she has to navigate before she can post anything. Honestly, this is why I’m so quick to defend her when delays like this happen. She’s the only Diablo CM and that’s not her only position at the company. On top of that, she has to navigate red tape, and carve out time for a life outside work.

Don’t worry, y’all. We’ll hear from her–either here or in an official post–soon.

Disclaimer: This is only speculation on my part, and involves reading into things. As such, what I’m about to say may not be accurate in the slightest. Please take what I say as my educated guess and nothing more.

That said, my feeling is that the nerf to Wizards and Necros might be the first step in pushing back against the inevitable moment when we’re all soloing 150. When I zoom out and look at the buffs they doled out, the new sets they created, and the nerfs leveled at specific items, the bigger picture appears to be that they are, in fact, trying to balance most of the classes with each other. In my eyes, the (yet unconfirmed–again, this is just speculation) upcoming nerf to Lamentation is meant to get the maximum Barb power potential (with that build) in line with Necros and Wizards, +/- 2-3 GRs

The problem is that classes that aren’t getting nerfs are now in the 142+ range. Wizard will still be there. So will Necro. So if Lamentation has no multiplier, the nerf to Barb will likely prevent us from hitting 138-140, and we will likely be 4-6+ tiers behind other classes.

Even with 100% on Lamentation, we will, at best, be neck and neck with Monks and Crusaders. WDs, DHs, Wizs, and Necros will still be clearing a few tiers above us.

So, if you’re asking whether I think Lamentation will get nerfed, my answer is: I don’t know. If my speculation above is correct, they won’t give us 200% on the belt, because that would upset their intention to balance. You already know how I feel about “balance,” so all I’ll say about that is it’s not really a concern and Barbs should be allowed to be the top dog DPS class for at least a Season or two (and so should Monks!). If I’m right, I think they may let us keep 150% or 100%, both of which are, while not optimal, better than nothing.

Let’s look at the most likely possibilities.

Lamentation Multiplier GR Tier Loss from PTR
200% 0
150% 2.5-3
100% 3.5-4
0 7-8

Ideal outcome: They leave 200% on Lamentation, nerf as need, if needed, down the road. I feel certain they are putting way too much emphasis on the 140 PTR clears and not paying enough attention to how difficult and demanding the build is for low-Paragon/early-Season players.

And if crusader actually gets those crazy multipliers maybe only monks

Very true, my friend.

For what it’s worth, I sincerely hope the new Monk and Sader set are buffed through the roof, and that those classes enjoy a glorious Season plowing 140.

I am flabbergasted that it was acknowledged that the WW was not strong enough to push, then this happens. I will take someone’s suggestion and reserve my doubt by waiting to see what is published as the actual release for next season.
‘Maybe’ they changed their minds…we’ll see…

EDIT:

I can say safely after doing 100 with the current Akhan’s set and not with ridiculous specs, that with the sader your estimations when the set is focused on those skills is pretty dead on the mark. The monk is a little less obvious to me.

This post is about to have more replies than my paragon levels

Thats cause the MAJORITY of forum posters here dont want a BARB NERF

And rightfully so…

BOOM :1st_place_medal:

I have a heaven’s Fury build with Akhan’s and it does 100 and I am NOWHERE near the top tier of players. Looking at those sader stats I know it will kick the a** of my current build.
So nerfing the Barb makes no sense - I am sure the dev’s do not have it in for the barbs, but as I have said the whole time, they should have at least given it a full season before even considering nerfing it.

Where’s the memes? You haven’t got one yet of pinky saying “NERF” instead of “narf “ …or am I the only one that watched that cartoon?..

No nerfing please! My level 70 Barb could be much better, but don’t take away something that will def handicap the player!

and this happened…

Paragon: 3084

Solo GRift: 144 (14m 19.983s)

Forget patator’s 145 with 10k paragon…144 with 3084???

(disclaimer that paragon is from d3progress, can’t import the battletag into d3planner to see current paragon)

Yep, better nerf that barb at 140 with 10k…

Yikes.

Just saw that on Progress. Assuming it was Chantodo’s, so, yeah, it will be nerfed, but that Paragon says it all.

Lamentation doesn’t need to be nerfed at all for Barbs to be “in line” with the current solo power rankings.
