It smacks to much like the Tal Rasha set that forces you to have 4 different elemental skills that do different elemental damage on your bar while in essence your damage only comes from one (2 max) of those skills.
But at least it would rid us of that awful mechanic that it has now so I finally would play with this set even if it silly to have skills on your bar that basically do nothing but make sure your get the set bonus.
I’d envision Disintegrate, A Fire-spender, Ignite Weapon and Sparkflint. Teleport and Storm Armor as the last two spells.
If we got Frost Nova as a Fire rune (So Cold It Burns) or “Burning Aspect”, we could have even more flexibility. But Sparkflint, Ignite Weapon, Disintegrate (or AT) and a spender would work fine.
The only two of these that might be eligible is Familiar getting an Lightning rune, and Magic Weapon getting a Frost rune; but this is low-priority. all the rest is just wrong for reasons they stated in the past.
At least, I can’t think of a reason why Familiar or MW dont have Lighting or MW a Frost rune.
I think there are a few more that make sense.
Magic Missile - Charged Blast can be turned into lightning
Disintegrate - Chaos Nexus can be Lightning (which would perfectly fit)
Wave of Force - Debilitating Force can frost
And Familiar and Magic Weapon as well as you mentioned.
While I would see how for the other skills another elemental rune would not make too much sense, it could still be useful to have something like that for more flexibility.
That’s fair; Disintegrate should have a Lightning rune. Volatility does make a lot of sense. But like I said; the odds of any of this happening is basically zero.
It has to come with a patch that also fixes, changes or nerfs the channelling item (etched and DW), then it can be done.
iirc I also posted a few ideas on how these items can be changed in this thread in some of the replies. If not, the idea is basically to let them primarily affect the channeling skill, which the have a smaller bonus to other skills while channeling.
E.g. 400% damage to channelling skills, 100% to non-channelling skills while channelling.
They can’t nerf channeling as it’s already too low to compete with other sets. They have to rework set with item’s, i don’t think they are willing to do so. All they needed to do with typhon was to adjust a number. Everything they need is in these forums.
the problem are not just the sets, but also DW and ES. They need to be addressed. The channelling damage can stay the same, but the damage to other skills while channelling is the problem here.
Channeling damage is way is too low compared to most other class skills and most of our builds it’s almost a secondary for the set. It is the only thing we have though so they need to buff channeling but also buff other skills by way way more.
This is exactly what I am suggesting:
Let DW and ES buff the damage of channelling skills way more than they buff the damage of non-channelling skills.
I know. I would love to play my LoD Etched Sigil Meteor Disintegrate build a lot more, but what annoys me about it is that the vast majority of the damage comes from the Meteor and not from Disintegrate. It just doesn’t feel right.
If 40-50% of the damage would come from the Meteor, fine, but not 90%.
But that is not solving the problem here.
The problem is that DW and ES buff non-channelling skills while channelling as well, and as long as this issue exists, you will never be able to balance that whole thing correctly.
My proposal regarding Death Wish and Etched Sigil:
Death Wish: Arcane Torrent, Ray of Frost, and Disintegrate now deal their maximum damage. Arcane Torrent, Ray of Frost, Disintegrate, and Disintegration Wave all deal xxx% more damage.
Etched Sigil: While channeling Arcane Torrent, Disintegrate, or Ray of Frost, the damage of your Arcane Power Spenders is increased by xx% and you also cast one of your other damaging arcane power spenders every second. Hitting an enemy with an Arcane Power Spender increases the damage of Arcane Torrent, Disintegrate, or Ray of Frost by xxx% for 10 seconds .
Etched Sigil: Increase the damage of Arcane Torrent, Disintegration Wave, Ray of Frost and Arcane Torrent by 400-500% and also cast one of your other damaging arcane power spenders every second.
It’s far superior; you are buffing Vyr by 500% damage. The goal here is it’s also casting Arcane Blast; so it might have to be changed to cost one AP or something so ES can cast it. I think that’s the buff Vyr needs to be competitive.
Ah, I missed the Disintegration Wave. Personally, I wouldn’t want both Death Wish and Etched to buff the Archon skills, otherwise they’ll become mandatory weapon pairs, not unlike the Chantodo set. Buffs to the Archon skills should either be done through Vyr, Fazula, and/or the archon skills themselves.
You’re probably right, if anything should buff Disintegration Wave, it should be Deathwish. Vyr has an open Weapon slot, was just trying to “fill” it. Etched Sigil’s affix works really well with Arcane Blast, though.
If you've ever seen the damage modifers on Archon, they are pathetic. They could easily be doubled.
Maybe something like “the damage of your Archon Abilities is increased by xxx%”, or maybe a legendary that also changes how these skills work, like double arcane blast, etc.
And maybe it could also increase the damage of secondary and force abilities for x seconds while out of Archon form, or the next xx times you cast a secondary or force ability when out of Archon.
