Fissure farming with Necro

Player with very little Necro play time here that will be playing Necro in S37. I will be sticking to just the one class (like I do with most seasons) and my aim is to spec up the builds I like in mostly ancient pieces to keep in NS.

For most part, I get a farming build going, unlock the Altar, and run Fissures for most of the season.

Wondering what the Necro pros suggest for my progression in S37:

  • what farming setup should I aim for with the Inarius set at first?
  • what set/farming build should I aim for eventually to farm fissures effectively with Necro?

Thanks in advance!

I don’t play much Necro, either, but you might even bypass Inarius and go right for LOD Death Nova with the upcoming theme.

Three weapons in the cube.

Cheers for the reply mate.

Yeah, looking at Maxroll, LoD mages seems to be the farming setups of choice (though not the most effective). The problem with LoD is the time for me to get it geared up. Being relatively casual, I will likely spend a good bit of time with the Haedrig’s Gift set.

IcyVeins suggested Inarius Corpse Explosion as one of the better Inarius farming setups. Worth trying out at first I guess since I’ll have the set for free.

EDIT: Though, I can see the benefit of going LoD in the long run… there’s a few items needed in the cube to get a farming setup going and if these are worn, it frees up the cube for the weapon powers.

What you’re going to want to be on the lookout for is the Haunted Visions amulet. It makes your simulacrums last forever and makes them capable of casting grim scythe at the expense of casting mage. Just make sure you pack more than 1% of your max hp in life-per-second or else the amulet will eventually kill you.

Permanent sims opens up death nova builds, which plays well with Inarius’s close-quarters bone armor aura aoe. Can run Frailty curse with aura rune, with Dayntee’s Binding belt, for even more toughness. But your sims can die so be mindful of their positioning during things like grotesque explosions.

My favorite necro spec is Rathma, but that’s not really a good farming spec unless you have a crapton of cdr since your army of the dead nuke is your only source of meaningful damage. For farming, I’d recommend death nova (Inarius or Trang), or Masquerade bone spear. With Masquerade your sims are immortal so you really only have to worry about positioning in terms of aiming their spears.

LoD death nova is really good too but requires a level 99 gem + ancient gear to really hold its own in most seasons. Though, with unrestricted cube, basically any necro spec will be really good because their weapons all add crazy multipliers.

That works out well for me then…

  • During the first crucibles season, I made a Necro as a second character and of the builds I tried back then, I kept Trags and Masquerade as they were the two I liked the most. My aim for S37 will be to gear up those two builds with ancient/primal and augmented pieces… been on my to do list for a while now.
  • Inarius being the starter set will help me transition to Trags quite easily.

This is probably the item that scares me the most… I remember how annoying it was to try to get a well rolled one as normal grade let alone ancient or primal.

I will have to give Rathma another chance. I liked that they made the set support Revive but hated how the Revived do bugger all damage. The nuking with AotD did look satisfying though.

Thanks for all the tips. Definitely looking forward to playing Necro in S37 more now that I’ve got a plan of attack with progression.

I have spent many thousands of mats trying to any Haunted Visions, much less a well rolled one.

I agree, it is essential for the Death Nova builds.

Sounds like I need to save all my haunted vision drops and upgrade to primal.

I would go for this set-up for T16 farming with Inarius:

On case by case basis, you can replace Corroded Fang in cube for In-Geom (just to have Bone armor up all the time - that’s why there is CDR). You can also ā€œwearā€ Corroded Fang and have Scythe of the Cycle in cube - Scythe is your main 1H damage multi (Bloodtide Blade is kinda mandatory).
I use similar set-up when farming T16 with Trag-Oul.
Pretty simple, once you pick up gold, Briggs will pull in almost all the screen (considering Avarice Band on follower), and you manually cast Nova, get corpses, and Devour gives you back resources and HP.
Should be tanky enough, as long as there is some gold.

I created an ā€œInarious Speed Novaā€ build to farm with

I started with Maxroll’s ā€œInarious Death Novaā€. I replaced ā€˜Simulacrum’ with ā€˜Blood Rush-Hemostatis’ and replaced ā€˜Wisdom of Kalan’ in the cube with ā€˜In-Geom’.

I’m getting sub two minute GRs upto 90. Either wear ā€˜Nemesis Bracers’ yourself or make the follower wear them and simply bee-line to the next elite pack. I have my follower set up with both ā€˜Sage’s Journey’ and ā€˜Cain’s Destiney’ using ā€˜Ring of Royal Grandeur’

Here is a video of me running a Speed 97 in three minutes.

[Edit: ā€œThe F-4 Phantom is proof that if you put enough thrust behind a brick, you can make it flyā€ Col. Clarence ā€œDickā€ Anderegg]

[Edit2: Just ran a 122 in eight minutes. Not speedy but doable when the ā€˜Iron Rose’ Special procs. Took me a few runs to realize that I wasn’t killing anything even the trash until I got ten stacks]

I’m doing 115 on Trag Oul in the 1:45-2:30 range.
When you get to TXVI and unlock the double DB node on Altar, you really don’t need Sage’s anymore.
If Iron Rose is not ā€œproccing by itselfā€ just manually cast few Nova’s - it will drain your HP and give you the IR stacks.
Sidenote, try to avoid having Shield and Channeling Pylons up at the same time, as you won’t be able to refresh Iron Rose stacks with that combo.
With shield only you need to manually refresh the stacks. With Channelling only you need to get hit to refresh stacks.
Try around 105+ for speeds, you might be more consistent with your Iron rose stacks.

I use the Templar for T16 content (bounties, nephalem rifts and visions) where he’s set up for extra gems and keys (broken crown and Cain’s plus amulet, bracers and rorg and even avarice band if I use boon of the hoarder and goldwrap on my hero to sustain molten explosions while picking up stuff). Also Homing pads are nice on templar for uninterrupted teleports. I also use the templar for echoing nightmares where I focus a bit more on his CDR.

For GRs I use the enchantress set up without the need for extra drops. She also always have the gloves of worship as I prefer ā€œspeedā€ runs at a higher levels than what can be done in around two minutes. Sometimes the templar gets to use the gloves of worship too (they are with intelligence as I only have one pair right now).
