Feel like I'm soft-capping at GR80

My build: https://us.diablo3.com/en/profile/Gorgatun-1894/hero/104131124

This build comfortably and quickly clears GR76s and takes about half the allotted time to clear GR80s. It runs into significant slowdown after that and there isn’t much remaining room for optimization so I obviously need a new strategy.

I have had poor luck trying to replicate the meta builds on icyveins; I just seem to do way too little damage and my survivability tanks. I tried https://www.icy-veins.com/d3/meteor-wizard-bis-gear-gems-paragon-points - that didn’t go very well. I couldn’t kill a GR75 normal mob despite having everything but the Endless Walk set.

What build should I be working towards? An archon build? Was the Endless Walk bonus in the meteor build the missing key that would have brought it up to par?

Well, first thing I see is that whoever made that icy veins guide knows very little about Wizards or current patch or both. Recommending Firebird for anything currently is downright inept. I had to check the date to make sure it wasn’t made years ago when Firebird was among the strongest Meteor builds, but it looks like it was made very recently.

If you want to use Meteor, I would highly recommend either a Tal Rasha setup, or if you have the ancients to support it, a LoD setup is stronger and much more tanky. Here’s an example of a good LoD setup: https://us.diablo3.com/en/profile/Ryoko-1455/hero/105948121

For your current build, the two easiest upgrades are the weapon and amulet. You definitely want to run a Deathwish, even a random crappy non-ancient one will be better damage wise than your In-Geom. For the amulet, you want a Squirt’s Necklace. If you make these changes, even if you have to end up using non-ancient unrolled items, you’ll be pushing 90 almost instantly. The hero I linked above can run 122-123.

Thank you for the input and the add - I ended up getting an ancient Deathwish with solid stats this afternoon and that, along with a few minor upgrades, got me up to the GR90 range without breaking a sweat.

I’ve found the combo of slow time + meteor + the pull effect from the amulet to be invaluable and really fun. I hope it works for a while longer.
