Can we bring it back?
Just because a post isn’t violating forum rules doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be shamed and buried for providing false information.

just no, any idea that anyone disliked even slightly and people downvoted like crazy, now they need to actually discuss it and maybe bring their own better ideas. If there would be downvote button, i would downvote this thread like mad.
But that’s not how the down vote button was used. Opposing opinions were down voted, even if perfectly reasonable or even well though out.
If it was still present, I would’ve down voted your post.
No no, down votes are completely useless on a forum. If you like the post give it a like, if not dont. Its easier and avoids trolling.
What is in my opinion more frustrating is that if you type stuff into the text box, mark it all, then right-click and try to click on ‘Copy’ (so the text does not get swallowed by a disconnect, a forum bug or whatever) and then accidentally click on ‘Paste’, which will remove the whole text that you have written before and then try to restore the old text by clicking on ‘Undo’, it for some reason does not undo the whole thing and so the whole text is lost…
Does this happen to anyone else?
It already happened to me twice that some larger amounts of text were lost due to this on the new forums.
Paste is greyed out for me until i copy first, so i’m not sure how your losing text. Click paste instead of undo to restore what you copied. You can have repeat a copy multiple times by using Ctrl+V instead of right-clicking paste.
Maybe it could work like on facebook where they have different emojis.
We could have one button for Completely Agree
, Mostly Agree
, one for Mostly Disagree
, one for Completely Disagree
, one for Agree with some things and others not
, one for Funny
and one for Trolling or Useless Content
and maybe a few other options…
Yeah, sure, but what if you already have something else copied that you can paste?
I’m not sure if i follow. To save some text if your afraid of losing it just use Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C, it will avoid misclicks.
Also to stay on topic, i also prefer things the way they are now, without a dislike button. It encourages voicing opinions with text and avoids those “omg i got downvoted” reactionary posts.
I’d rather have a full & proper MUTE button that hides posts and threads of the muted users, so I wouldn’t have to feel my IQ dropping by 50% the second I see their thread titles alone.
Spoken like someone who got downvoted to oblivion on a daily basis
While there are forums out there with said system, Blizzard is not facebook. Also people mislabel everything here just because they disagree. I rather not have that system either.
Shouldn’t this be reported as trolling and removed by moderator?
I think he just meant being mistaken, not intentionally providing false information. Hopefully that’s what he meant.
I hold left-click, drag it over the whole text to mark it, then right click on it and use ‘Copy’. That is the way I have always done it.
But sometimes I misclick and press on ‘Paste’ instead of ‘Copy’ which then will replace the whole text I have written with something else I saved.
Then when I try to undo it by right-clicking and pressing ‘Undo’, it simply does not undo that stuff, dunno why… in the old forum it worked, but not on this one.
Suggestion:
Do your highlight, then hit Ctrl-X to cut, Ctrl-C to copy and Ctrl-V to paste. To undo something immediately, hit Ctrl-Z.
Get into the habit of this, and you will have less mistakes.
I am confused though as to why you are highlighting and trying to copy something in your own text field, unless you are moving things around after you type them? I quote specific parts of a post like this:
Usually by dragging my mouse over the part I want then clicking on “Quote” when it pops up. At least on a computer anyway.
Just some suggestions.
The new forums are MUCH better about saving your text and not letting it get eaten by a hidden session timeout. So no, I don’t copy paste anymore.
Agree here. There are just some folks who can’t seem to manually ignore others and keep themselves from responding. Mute/Ignore is something these forums (across all the Blizz games), need back again.
As for the downvote - it was labled “dislike” and yes, if you don’t agree with an opinion it was ok to dislike it. That is how the world works, you present an opinion or suggestion and others tell you what they think. Voting is one way (dislike and like button) as is responding with a comment.
Blizz prefers to promote discussions which the downvote button does not encourage. I miss it myself because I don’t think some posts even are worth any response besides that…but yeah.
The best option is to reply with a counter opinion and let that post get upvoted as a way to show support for whatever idea more of the forums want.
I quote the same way you do, but I was referring to something completely different.
I the old forums it would sometimes happen that you write something, either a completely new thread or a post reply and then when you click on Reply to send it, your post would get ‘swallowed’ so to speak, for what reason ever… which means that when you e.g. write a thread and send it, it just does not get shown on the front page of the forum, because it was never send so to speak… it was swallowed and not able to be recovered.
That is why I and other people marked what we have written and copy it before we send it, so in case the thread or reply gets ‘swallowed’, we still have it saved in our PC’s memory.
If on the old forum you accidentally pasted something else into the text box/marked text (which would errase/overwrite what you have written), you could simply right click and press on ‘Undo’ to restore all of that, but here in this forum it (at least sometimes with longer texts) it does not work.
That was what I was referring to.
It is a habit from the old forums…
What’s the saying?
A lie can travel half way across the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes
Ya, it’s a shame some people get downvoted simply for being unpopular or disliked - but I think there needs to be some sort of way to combat bad information outside of someone refuting it 20 posts down in the thread.
The problem that I have with the original posts is that what one person claims to be “false information” may actually be factual and supported by data that disproves a frequent misconception. If dislikes are being used to “shame and bury” a factual post, then it is clear to me why Blizzard got rid of the downvote option.
