To answer OP: the two games are so different, it is really apples to oranges. D2 was amazing for its time. Would I go back and play it again, NO. I tried D2R, yawn. Immediately refunded that.
D3 has become decent over the years. Poor decision making has prevented it from becoming a legendary-status type of game in my book. It’s good enough for filling a quick itch of slaughtering hordes of monsters quickly.
D3 to me, in all honesty, is a better game.

After playing D3, D2 puts me to sleep now. It was the king of the hill when it was the only one around.

Not atypical. No super fast gearing. I can play a class on seasons and get every piece of gear for the class in a week. In D2, played it for years with MF gear and there are items I’ve never had drop once.

Indeed. The “king” can’t even compete in the modern days where competitors were literally everywhere.
the answer is just so easy and simple , diablo 3 never have any glory day or era ,
diablo 2 have a glory era from day 1classic too diablo 2 lod 1.09
