No other game has managed to keep my attention for over 10yrs like D3 has.
In addition to D2, I’ve gotten into stuff like Unreal Tournament (99/2003/2004), Quake 3, BF1942, Freelancer, C&C Red Alert 2, and Heroes of the Storm and I reckon the longest any of them has kept me playing has been around 4yrs.
Surprisingly, I’ve hit 3yrs of playing Mortal Kombat Mobile but lately that game feels like a drag… though, mainly due to some serious deal breaking bugs ruining my gaming experience.
Speaking for myself…
D2 was…a decent game in it’s own right. It certainly didn’t “feel” like Diablo to me but then D3 doesn’t really feel like Diablo to me either.
I take each game as it’s own entity and while D3 could have been far superior than it is, it does fit a very particular niche for me.
It is my pallet cleanser game.
When I get bored of highly concentrated binges of any other game and need a good solid break to wash the taste out of my mouth…
I come watch the damage numbers roll across my screen in D3.
No matter what game I play I always return to D3 for some mindless fast paced critter killing fun.
D3 has been my mind clearing relaxing break in between other frustrating games since it came out.
Will be sad to see my frustration flusher go when they shut it down 
Look how many threads on average per day are discussed on us bnet Diablo 2 forums.
Look how many threads are active here on D3 forums.
Draw conclusions.
Uninstall.
Install D2R.

They are like dysfunctional codependents with nothing better to do. I see them on the D4 forum as well “but it’s not D2.” They have been crying about D3 for 11 years and now they will complain about D4 for another 10 years. I fired up D2R last week and uninstalled it again soon after. D3 will be in maintenance mode after S29, so I will be all in with D4. I do not care what crybabies say.
I think Greater Rifts have been a huge boon in terms of a renewable content. I do wonder how D2 would be with Greater Rifts and paragon levels though. Would be quite interesting. But I doubt they’ll ever do something like that.
I’m curious, are there D3 fanbois on the D2 forums as well?

D3 is and probably always will be better game than D2.
Which one is better is purely subjective. There are many who will say 2 is better and many who will say 3 is better. There are many who will say one or the other is better but are purely trying to get a rise out of someone/others. You can blame that part on some players being so obsessed (yet try pretending they’re not).
To me, it doesn’t matter. We’re all here doing the same thing… enjoying Diablo. Who cares which one someone else is loving?
Nahh. D2 is a really gritty game, have to work for everything. Just logged into D3 for the first time in 2 years and everything is EZmode, depend on your preference, earn it or have it given to you

Played the heck out of D2 back in the day, but I enjoy D3 better.

Not really. D3 lets you get a functioning build quickly as opposed D2 (assuming of course you don’t take shortcuts in which case you have a perfected build in D2 in minutes), getting a perfected build in D3 though takes some serious time grinding.
Personally I don’t really see the fun in playing a subpar build for hundreds of hours before you can play how you actually want to play.
