The way I see is which: game would most benefit from each other’s mechanics.
D2 could benefit from a lot o QoL things D3 brought and some nice end game ideas.
But D3 could benefit from almost everything in D2: Art Design Direction, Skill and Stats System, Trading, PvP (of sorts), Itemization, Sense of Progression, Story Consistency…
D3 is a great Action Game.
D2 is a largely better ARPG game.
So no, considering that Diablo 3 is part of Diablo Franchise, it’s not a better game overall. It just feels more modern if compared to D2.
But… that’s only my opinion and I had a good time in D3 for many years
No. It’s not even half as good. I would far rather replay D2 today than D3.
Replaying them today, with D2, I’d get to build a character in detail, I’d have a moody, thick, immersive atmosphere, I’d hear amazing music that bolsters the atmosphere, I’d have a good story and dialog, I’d have a loot drop system that isn’t over-the-top and where finding new usable loot is actually exciting. With D3, I’d have none of those things.
D2 was great for it’s day. After D3 RoS I cannot even force myself to install D2 again. Both games have some good and bad features. I hope D4 will be even better, I am not one for living in the past. I am sure that after D4 comes out I will move away from D3. I might play it off and on, as for D2, I have moved past that a long time ago. That ship has sailed.
Anyways, D4 needs to utilize the best things about D1, D2, and D3. It needs to take the dark, eerie helplessness of D1 and atmosphere. It needs inventive itemization and skill tree like D2. It needs the responsive combat and engine smoothness of D3.
With that, it could create a game better than D2LoD, which is crazy to think considering D2 is widely considered the best ARPG of all time, and ranked very highly as one of the best PC games by many.
I kinda wish Diablo 3 wasn’t part of this IP, because I like it a lot and I feel like a lot of the hate it gets is because it really strayed away from D2 to the point that it’s barely even the same genre.
As a more action focused person than an RPG focused person, I find myself playing D3 much more. It is a better hack n’ slash action game.
The strengths of D2 are in the way itemization works without getting into detail. The story was much better. The music was better. The game is very dated visually nowadays.
The strengths of D3 is in the visuals, combat mechanics. The itemization was it’s biggest weakness.
I’ve played both, I like both. I want D4 to set it’s own standard.
i have one too , and he played at D2 and D3 but surely when he will become grow he 'll try to challenge himself and he will easy see how D3 is poor compare to D2 and how complex the game is… life bro.
You mean the time you do nothing because you have CDs or the time you spend rerolling GRifts or the time you run around pulling monsters as zdps for your friend who sits in the middle of monsters without taking damage? That’s some sick moment to moment gameplay bruh.
“Diablo” 3 is a BAD ARPG. “Diablo” 3 is NOT a Diablo game. It didn’t beat D2’s success (sales mean nothing since it only sold well because people thought they were getting a Diablo game) and the only impact has been a negative one.
D2 is a Diablo game - an action role-playing game that is dark, gothic, medieval, grounded in realism. It has depth and character building. It is focused on Characters. Based on the rpg elements of things like dungeons and dragons.
D3 is an arcadey loot hunt game focused on Items - collecting more and more powerful items and then buffing those items even further. Due it’s simplistic systems it can easily be transferred to mobile phones… oh wait…
