Why not a captcha or a system that detects suspicious behavior? Do you think the majority of players would find the cost worth the benefit?
So you are under the camp that Blizzard does not have the ability to solve the bot problem?
I agree but only if the doctor wants to treat the patient… many years and the doctor couldn’t cure the disease ( bots) and I doubt after all these years they will start doing anything seriously about bots now in D3.
They might find away to limit bots for D4, not cuz they want to… just for the sake of selling copies goes smoother…

All about that $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Maximize profits to the investor. If you make a one time payment of $60, what incentive does Blizz have to keep bots out of their games after a year or two? Good will every once in a while I suppose but is there anything else? Why not just patrol hard for a year then ban wave progressively less and less? Maximize that sharedholder profit. Seems like the D2/3 model to me. Overwatch is nicely patrolled but they have a good reporting system and use it.
Nobody wants to work for free. Playing online should be a SMALL monthly fee. Since content is not added often it should be a small fee. People that don’t pay the fee can play lan or single player after connecting online to verify a legit purchase (or they can play offline possibly).
For all the time I put into a high quality game, I would love to pay ~10-20 $/year to support the server quality, etc.
