yeah, it would be a success for Blizzard if Immortal flopped but what if Immortal made more money in a shorter time than these 2 combined in the lifetime? It won’t be a surprise if Blizzard immediately favored Immortal over D4 if that happened.
Immortal doing well only means that they would invest more in immortal and other mobile games, not that they’d abandon their PC games (or try to make the PC games more like mobile, which isn’t really possible to do because the markets are too different).
Immortal being successful and Diablo 4 being successful can coexist because they’d be using different metrics to measure them. You measure a PC/Console game’s success against other PC/Console games and a mobile game’s success against other mobile games, particularly other mobile ARPGs.
They announced Immortal instead of D4 at Blizzcon 2018 when they should have focus on D4 development first or Diablo 3 but they didn’t.
Blizzard didn’t co-exist with Diablo 3 and HoTS with other Blizzard games. They are straight away moving the budgets to WoW by canceling D3 2nd expansion.
And I am being generous that D4 will sell 50 million here against Immortal. What if D4 only sold 30 million copies after 3 years as D3 did?
Doubtful, but I suppose this is just you being incredibly excited while waiting for Diablo Immortal, and as such I hope when it comes out, you’ll have all the fun that you can have with it.
That would mean that their predatory microtransactions did what was intended: Milk dry the dual-wielding credit card warriors.
This would show they are far more concerned with extracting as much money as they can from the small percentage of people who can’t control themselves.
30 million copies x $60 is still 1.8 billion dollars in revenue which is still a nice chunk of change. This also doesn’t take into account cosmetic shop sales and potential DLC’s which should push the revenue over 2 billion to 2.5 billion in revenue.
If this amount of money is not worth their effort and they want to chase the mobile trash gold, more power to 'em. I just won’t be making that journey with them.
Pubg, CoD and Fortnite don’t have p2w MTX, only cosmetic yet they made a lot of money.
Give me one reason why Blizzard stop supporting HoTS and move most of their budget to WoW?
Simple. WoW is profitable and HoTS is not.
How long will it take to sell 30 million copies? Certainly won’t be in one year. From the articles about mobile revenue that I am reading so far, those profitable mobile phones usually made hundreds of millions in 2 to 3 months, and they have lower-cost development.
Genshin Impact got back their development cost just in 2 weeks.
Why does it surprised you? D3 sold 30 millions+ and they don’t care because it not making as much as Overwatch and WoW.
D:I will have both cosmetic and p2w microtransactions. Just look at the currencies, gold can only be found, platinum can be found or purchased, and orbs can only be purchased. Anyone with have a brain can figure out if you want to succeed in the game without putting in 15,000 hours, you are going to have to purchase some orbs.
Again, this game is designed with the sole purpose to maximize the money they can milk out of their base.
Blizz was unable to make a game that could capture a sizable portion of that genre. They cut their losses and moved on. They have been in the ARPG market for 20+ years. They have made a ton of money in it, otherwise there wouldn’t have been a D2, D3, D4, D:I. While the mobile trash game might make more than D4, D4 will still make plenty of money. There is no law forcing them to not have 2 games in the genre. Both can succeed, and both do not need the same business model.
If it takes 4 years to sell 30 million copies along with the cosmetic crap and potential DLC’s, that would still bring in 500 mil to 600 mil a year in revenue. I seriously doubt their operational costs are anywhere near that, so ya, it would be profitable.
Again, you are making the assumption they have to go whichever way makes the most money. If both are making money, you can support both games. It would be in their best interest to stay in both the PC market and mobile market as there is plenty of market share in both.
D3 sold most of their copies off of D2’s success, 3rd party sites trying to make money, and through promotional offers like “Buy D3, get a free year of WOW”. They were unable to keep those customers because they had created a RMAH farming simulator and instead of adding new content to the game, they have spent the majority of the time trying to fix bugs, balance issues, and gameplay issues. They stopped putting money into D3 and canceled the 2nd expansion because they knew it would be far to expensive to fix all of D3’s problems.
No !!! This will not happened!!!
We people of the free world, will keep traditional platform!!!
PC games for the free world!!
Well for starters they all are. They do nothing more than waste time on our slow march to the end of our lives regardless of the medium.
Have you ever been a boss or in charge of a project? When talking to your client/customers, it is routinely customary to say you have your best employees on it. I think you guys read too much into that comment.
But the mobile and console market are far superior in terms of revenue and numbers of players.
Sorry my man… I am a PC player, and no ty …
And you are a minority among gamers.
A whole generation of gamers will be blind by 55 staring into those tiny screens.
Can I play it on a PC?
Funny that no one said the same thing for the Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo Switch screen size: 6.2 inch
Average modern smartphone screen size: 6 inch.
EDIT: Did my some of my posts just get removed here? How and why?
No idea but sometimes, if you have quoted someone, and their posts are removed because of something naughty they said, the mods also get rid of the posts that quoted them. When that happens you get no system notification, as you didn’t commit an offence.
Thank you. I guess I have to repost it then later.
Probably because you can also play the switch on TV, instead of solely handheld.
You can play smartphone game at TV/Monitor too.
It is more like people dissing smartphone without considering the existence of Nintendo Switch as well, and yes, tablet exists too.
Really? I wasn’t aware of that. My apologies.
