Diablo Immortal announced for PC crossplay with mobile

I believe they did, unless I’m remembering wrong. If so, then I apologize in advance.

YES. Which is why they got the chorus of “booos” during the panel.

The question asked was “What platforms will D:I be available on?”. The answer given was “iOS and Android mobile only”. Then there were the boos from the PC heavy audience at Blizzcon.

Then Wyatt, looking flustered and surprised, made the phone comment. That only made it worse.

Wyatt is a great human and gets very into the games he makes. He is not a PR guy though so that was a tough spot to be in.

Regardless, they listened and now we have it on PC.

Oh the irony. Congrats PC gamers.

You are missing the business reasons:

On PC, (their launcher) they don’t pay a % fee for the microtransaction income.

Sadly no one says or writes about this. It is a win win for them.

They still pay fees to the payment processing services just like they always do. Credit card, paypal, and any other service is not free for the merchant.

I don’t do mobile games so don’t know what/how they might take a cut, but I don’t think this is a factor in it.

True, but this is nothing to the percentage of Apple and Google.

Mobile platform gets around 30%, but this can vary.

I’m happy it’s coming to PC. Now I hope they announce it for Console. If it’s already playable with a controller there doesn’t seem to be a reason not to.

Blizzard definitely should not be criticized for that, if it is the case. PC is just a better platform for both players and developers

To be honest, Diablo Immortal was announced in 2018 and I think probably the idea of cross-play between gaming platforms is probably something very new for everyone to explore at that time. So they probably think it won’t work or don’t know how to do so until they learned more about it when other games companies start to do or experiment with that in 2019 and so on.

or maybe Microsoft asked them to do that.

Wow, my eyes tricked me good. I totally read the title as Diablo: Immortal cosplay.

At least PC version will exist. That should help sales.

The game is free to play. So yeah, not so much about sales. As long as they don’t go overboard on MTX it should be very enjoyable.

That could potentially have been much more interesting too!

Translated to Blizzard speak; Help with MAU.

I am usually the one to question Blizzards capabilities, but there is no way a large game studio didn’t think crossplay was possible, or knew how to do it, in 2018.
Even less so, a company that already did it, in Hearthstone.

I don’t think it was really dismissed at the time considering it was just announced. I’m thinking more along the lines of Blizzard stating it’s mobile only and shutting down the talk of a PC version.

In the FAQ they write, that DI wasn’t planned to be playable on PC. Just like they haven’t planned on controller support. Adding controller and PC support was a decision they made after the reveal at Blizzcon.

in the interview with PezRadar and Wyatt he just said controller support was added after requests for it came in after their first testing phase. In the interview with Wyatt and Rod, they said PC client was recently made after hearing all the talk of people wanting to emulate it. So technically they were made after the 2018 reveal, but both had nothing to do with the response to the reveal.

I have a phone and I pretty much pity its battery life if I were to play games on it. I made that mistake once. News about PC release is a relief. Good move.
