I think Diablo IV could benefit from breaking the mold, by not having cow levels, pony levels and having a truly grim dark world in all aspects
Slightly off topic: how are they going to handle the day/night cycle for those on the other side of the world?
Edit: WoW day/night cycles match up to the world, the oceanic servers keeping to the same cycle as the rest of the world causing most game time to be night, understandably d4 is not WoW.
That’s what “regional” play is for?..
Not to mention typically the day / night cycle of a game isn’t in real time…
Or just make it server time, and show that cycle as day and night, I think it maybe that one day real time could be done as two days in-game and none of us would be bothered.
I’m in Australia and US server time is what I expect it to be based on.
Actually in the Act1 dungeon’s leading to Andariel there is something off with the wall and the fireplace.
You notice it is different from the rest of that map and click on it until it opens up.
How bout 99.99999% truly grim dark with just a little cowbell. Would be hilarious to see a really grim cow level.
If they look like Bull Demons from Doom, they can enter the game, otherwise no.
They could go for 1 day = 1 or 2 hours. I think more would be too much bcs for people like me that always play 1 or 2 hours, more or less at the same time of the day, if it was longger, then one could end always playing at day or at night.
Also, if the day and night has a roll in which kind of enemies and events we can find (like i hope it does), make it longger would make those things to happen less often: for example, a quest ask us to kill x type of mob and that type of mob only appears during the day, but the day start in 4 more hours
It could be interesting if they also count the days, weeks, and maybe even years? This could have an impact on seasons, which and how some NPCs appear and move through the world, and also, to go back to the topic, it could play a roll to when a dungeon appear (or can be enter): imagine, for example a place under water and we can only access when the tides allow it, or some frozen lake (or a place with snow) and we must wait until spring.
All that could create a world that feel more alive.
That sounds ok but as long as that does not mean Easter Bunny or Father Christmas and the like. Unless it’s done in a full on dark gritty way.
Seems like an ok concept, there are many other iterations of this too. Maybe the developers will read this and a light bulb will go on and it will be developed to fit into their concepts.
Yes plant the seed, we/they dont have a monopoly on Ideas some will be great others not so much, but if we keep putting them out there there is a chance that some may evolve in to a game changer that we can all enjoy.
Yes, an open world can be very rich. I like many things they did in Guild Wars 2 for example: hidden places one could visit.
