I disagree here, you can’t compare the two gameplays shown. Diablo 4 demo showed all major systems and itemization are ready and working good while J. Wilson’s crew had 10% of that by that time in a proper state.
What’s left for them is:
- Add all legendary items
- Finish working on classes
- Finish all skills and talents
- Finish the crafting system
- Add all story content
- Add all Key dungeons
- Start Beta testing
- Balance stuff
- Stress test for launch
It depends on how much community feedback they take on, if they decide to re-vamp some systems based on our Blizzcon feedback (and there is a fair amount out there) then it could delay it.
Additionally delays could be caused by other things like Business decisions or even maybe the cinematics getting behind schedule.
I’d love for them to release within a year and a half but I think everyone should be careful to not hype it up too much incase it does change.
Only system needing tuning for launch is trading. Other are all good.
This doesn’t mean they won’t rework some things heavily.
There is a lot of criticism of some of their systems (some people are upset with the attack/defense stats).
They may or may not decide to make changes on these systems, even if many fans would be happy with the systems they showed us, there is still a reasonable chance they’ll change some, part or all of a system they’ve already shown.

Don’t forget we saw only a demo. And this demo was compiled months ago. The leaker saw an earlier version without the soso.
Most people are worried for:
- Things that are fine and they should not be worried
- Things that are not shown completely from the demo (like all stats on items)
The Diablo 4 team has done the hardest part of the work. Diablo 4 is in a good state and could be ready without any problems for early 2021.

I believe this was intended perhaps a year ago.
The fact the pre-pre-alpha which is what the D4 demo was at Blizzcon is all they have after 2 years.
I imagine two more full years before we begin entertaining ourselves with D4 on our desktop’s.
I’m mostly in agreement, I’m just saying that just because they “could” be ready for early 2021, doesn’t mean that they actually will be.
There are a lot of things that can delay projects and everyone should consider that we don’t know 100% of the exact details so it very much could get delayed.
I’m also hoping for the earliest release possible but I know they are under a lot of pressure to get this “right” rather than out quickly (due to D:Immortal backlash)

Why didn’t they announce a potential date if they had plans to release DIV this early? They specifically mentioned it’s not even close to release date. They could’ve atleast said Soon™.

They are going to announce a release date at Blizzcon 2020.
