Define what PRIVATE LOOT means before asking for it

Does private loot mean:

-Everyone gets their own instance of randomized drops like Diablo 3? In that case take a walk.

https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/44ac517d-7460-449d-83d3-f856b4f50aa6

-A dice rolling item allocation like WoW (shared loot instance). If a Windforce drops, the Amazon in the party will press NEED. The Necro doesn’t need it so he should press roll or Don’t Need, but he could trade that WF for something so if he wants to be a cold bastard he can press need and they will both roll for it. Both are valid in pressing need, but I know some people are kind enough to not press need on everything, in WoW I remember this being considered GM (good manners). I’m not some WoW player by the way, I think that game is boring trash because I came from D2.

This would also be a good system if Uber Diablo spawns in your game and you have this option enabled. Also David Brevik commended WoW’s item looting system before as well when asked about his thoughts on looting.

^^^^^^

I have a feeling after a while most purist players would end up opening up to this option or not mind playing either or because they’re essentially the same thing: they both share 1 instance of loot.

This would be an OPTIONAL game setting. In every poll done so far, it’s always been around 50/50 for shared loot or personal. Thats a considerable amount of people that want a looting system of some sort. So it’s not absurd to consider adding one in for whatever reason those people want it for. In the end we want this game to be a success and that’s by keeping the community happy, which will keep Blizzard happy, which will keep the community happy with future updates and support.

If you’re against having this OPTIONAL item system that 50% of people are asking for, or you think it should be done differently, share your constructive thoughts in the comment section below – but I think you would have to have a damned good reason to be against it. Rude comments will be responded to with rudeness.

Private loot , personal loot or whatever people call it always mean one thing here :

it’s a loot allocation system where if a boss drop 5 items : 5 players will have 1 items and 3 others will get nothing for example based on RNG (scenario which would happen in FFA anyway or even one person might take it all , especially if there is a bot or pickit user)

So no increase in loot or anything and indeed everyone ask for a toggle at game creation , not a direct change.

so…yea it’s only misinformation to think personal loot = higher drop rate.
It’s only a rng roll alowing only the player that was rolled for the said item to pick it up.

that being said , what you are definining is what every players that are asking for an instanced loot most probably mean. (atleast everyone that were asking for it meant that )
simply a roll system.

except for the “need” system like Wow though , considering that contrary to WOW , many item fit all classes and most players play every classes.
who wouldn’t say “need” to a shako , high runes etc… ?

But this seems extremely pointless because mostly white or blue items drop, it’s usually only one unique that drops. For the roll system, all whites, blues, socketables, rares fall on the floor, only uniques, set items, and high runes will trigger the roll.

Yeah I know, everyone will press need on a shaco, that’s no big deal, but when it comes to other uniques like a druid helmet, or an amazon bow, this is where it comes more into use.

The problem is Diablo 3 completely changed the meaning of it with their trash system, so we have no idea if people are referencing the last garbage can of a game that Blizzard named Diablo.

it is still what instanced loot actually means a roll dice for EVERY kind of loot.
Also , sometime gray items are more valuable than unique / set since they can be used for runeswords if they are socketed. And even more the case if they are socketed + ethereal , those are the best for mercenaries and some could even go for an ist depending on the item and socket number

after that , whether you would use it or not is another debate.
but instanced loot doesn’t mean higher total loot like diablo 3 , but simply loot allocation for every loot.
(personally if i had the case you are speaking of , i would simply throw back on the floor item that might help a teammate)

How would private loot work with barbarians “find item”? Id get pretty upset if I find a nice item using that skill, and it rolls to someone else^^

If people really want it to roll every single item that drops, I think it would be extremely pointless and annoying. I agree about the socketables, but they should still drop on the floor and not be rolled loot because it should be up to the player if they want to go out of their way to pick up a dark grey item and sift through ethereals and socketables. It would kind of baby the player if the game itself said “here’s a 3 socket mageplate, anyone want it?” without someone going out of their way to check it for themselves.

well probably rolled as well , i mean in FFA it would be like this : someone else could take it from you before you can…

not doing so would make item barbarians a bit too OP anyway as in everyone would make a barbarian for that purpose and get carried…

still ,that’s what most people here seem to want (people that are advocating for a loot allocation option as a toggle i mean, not the whole playerbase) , and i personally would like to aswell.
no one talked about the “need” option and considering how items actually works on diablo and most can be used on every classes and since most players have multiples character , i think the need option would be pointless and would actually be problematic as it would cut the action of the game.
needing to press “need” while you are fighting a group of enemies is a bit …
Wow is one thing , because in dungeon they are mostly fighting enemies one by one in huge numbers , on diablo it’s the reverse , it’s an very action and dynamic game.
anything that would cut that would be bad in my opinion.

So if Mephisto drops, 3 white items, 2 rares, 1 unique. Then those items roll to 6 out of the 8 players in the game? So a few players only see 1 white item drop, It doesn’t seem like a very appealing way to use this kind of system with D2 in my opinion.

The way I’m thinking about it is every player sees 3 whites, 2 rares drop, but the unique pops up on a mini box somewhere on the screen and people press if the want it or not.

that would be what would be happening inded and what most people are asking for.
even if that doesn’t appeal to you currently.

That being said , it’s a forum based on feedback , even if i haven’t seen anyone else ask for a “need” option , you can of course ask for it.
if loot allocation is a thing , multiple possibilities can be too.
(FFA / Instanced / need)

personally what i fear with the need system is mostly that it would cut the action (make players stop to check it) and hence isn’t in my opinion good for a dynamic game like diablo 2
But that’s merely my opinion.
one among many.
my opinion doesn’t weight more than yours.

In the end , only the devs will decide , not me , not you , not anyone else.
other than that , anykind of feedback / debate in peace should always be welcome

Yeah that’s a good point about that, it does stop the action a bit for people contemplating what to do (but WoW did have a generous timer added on to it to help with that). What I liked about it is it adds suspense each time a decent item drops, I feel like it would add to the experience.

Yeah you’re right, debating is necessary for the good of the game, and I don’t mind angry debates either as long as someone isn’t being a toxic baboon/troll.

Hopefully they were D2 players, because if they weren’t they would barely have an idea what makes a game good just because they know how to 3D model or animate, or program code. That’s why these forums are good for them to read because it’s the players that actually experienced and have passion for the game (most likely the best game made in the last 20 years) that can lead them in the right direction. I don’t think even David Brevik was as passionate about the gameplay/online experience as most purist players here.

even with a good timer i’am pretty sure most people would rush towards it even in a heated battle xD
considering how many loot actually loot , it might be a bit spamy. (in a mf run uniques/set are very common )
but if you think it might add to the experience , go for it , advocate for it , no one should be allowed to stop you on that, new options that doesn’t impede others and doesn’t give an advantage shouldn’t be a problem as a feedback to the devs

yea , a bit sad that many simply insult or say “go back to D3” or “go to diablo 2 vanilla it’s still there” as soon as they disagree with you… it’s a bit childish/toxic.

purist doesn’t mean more experience than non purists anyway , it only means players that want the game to be perfectly the same (which isn’t the case since the devs already added things on it )
while i do agree with them on some aspect as i don’t want diablo 2 to be made easier, i even think a new difficulty could be neat in order to make every area as a potential good farm spot (make all monsters in "hell + " the same level )
or be drastically changed.
But wanting a toggleable at game creation loot allocation wouldn’t change anything.
I think most are simply misinformed and think that it means higher drop rate.

they should keep the heated debate for actual game changers like the charm inventory that , if that was to happen , would be indeed kind of forced upon on everyone (like shared stash)
Personally i’am not necessarily against or for it , but that kind of changes should be the ones to be in heated debate , not drop allocation (instanced , need etc…) that simply make a new box check at game creation and doesn’t change anything in term of total loot or dififculty as they can simply not go in the said room game.

Make the item visble for everyone, make higher runes, rares and uniques drop for one player with a 10 second timer before it becomes free for all.
Checkbox on game creation.

it is indeed one possibility , it’s a nice alternative that some games uses and among many possibilities of what “instanced loot” can be.
it’s called “timed loot”. which is pretty cool in my opinion

Posting in any other loot thread is a waste of time because you guys don’t even know what you’re arguing for or against. Basically a bunch of baboons running wild.

  1. You can’t just ignore the consistent 50/50 community split on polls when it comes to FFA vs “personal loot”. Blizzard didn’t make this game for purists, otherwise what the hell is it doing on CONSOLES (no one ever confirmed this is strictly a remaster)? So I’m not going to let someone divert Blizzard down the wrong path and we end up with a Diablo 3 personal loot system.

  2. There are three OPTIONAL shared loot instance ideas in this thread. I personally think the one I suggested is consistent with the current loot system. Everything drops except for uniques, high runes, set items. So it’s a mix of FFA loot with a dice roll to give everyone a fair shake. There’s 3 minute (+ or - ) timer that stays out of the way to give you time to fight and then let you select when you’re out of combat. If everyone presses need on the SoJ, then it rolls and let the best man win, not a big deal.

  3. If Diablo 2 stays FFA loot then GREAT. That’s what made Diablo 2 great in the first place. But if Blizzard’s hand is forced to make 50% of the community happy, then these OPTIONAL shared loot systems are the way to do it.

This! I would rather it stay FFA Loot, but if they implement Personal Loot right then it’s not as bad!

Gonna give my own thread a little bumpsky since you kids are still wasting blizzards time with your own trash ideas with a thread about “Prviate Loot” where a few guys are suggesting D3 style loot systems.

I also think you guys are all low IQ because only 1 person hearted my thread. Yall have the IQ of a barstool. Yall don’t respect me and I don’t respect you, and that’s just it.

Second option. That is what we want.

It is not about the likes. But if you are so in need, here you go.
Give respect and get respect.

Liked all your posts. Now no more insults anymore. Deal?

I know you are just giving examples but the difference here is, that Necro can sell that bow for a lot and use that currency then for something they need. It isn’t like WoW where those types of items are all soulbound when you win. So if a wand dropped in WoW, and there was a Warrior (or another class who can’t use it at all) wouldn’t need it because it would be soulbound and can only vendor it or disenchant it.

So on D2 if my character got a BiS for another class, no way I would not be rolling on it then also so I could trade it. So imo this is not an option that should even be considered.

Do you really want to bring David Brevik into this conversation? If so…

David Brevik has repeatedly said if he could go back in time he would replace FFA loot with personal loot in D2/D2:LoD. More recently with respect to D2R, he said that Blizzard could add personal loot to D2R.
