I am unable to start the Darkening of Tristram event on the Switch. I have the current patch and am playing on “Adventure Mode” with no avail. I even tried starting a new game and nothing. Any help will be appreciated.

Check your date and time setting on the Switch System Settings menu. If it is set to Synchronize Clock via Internet and the current time and date is before January 3, 4:00 PST or the date and time is anything outside of January 3, 4:00 PST and January 31, 4:00 PST, the portal won’t be open.
Unlike the PC version which uses the time of the Blizzard servers, the console version uses the time and date of the console itself.
