D4 Onboarding with simpler items in a good way!

MOBA scene is very different. They are usually free so you need that steady stream of revenues. D4 will have box sales and expansions as well as a cosmetics shop. I doubt there will be a need for paid characters.

I mean characters probably come with expansions like RoS
Which is totally fine I guess

Yeah. When I am comparing with MOBAs I am doing it in terms of character design. Where each character is its own build, rather than a class.

As for selling characters, afaik in DotA2 all characters are completely free. A much better way to handle it, if you want to make a F2P game (I’d prefer if you just didn’t make F2P games :P). Selling characters very easily becomes P2W.

For Diablo 4, I very much expect character DLCs to be a thing. Like the Necromancer Pack. I am not even against that, at all. Unless they start to release a bunch of them. But if we get a few class DLCs over its lifetime, along with a few expansions with classes, that is totally fine with me (however, Blizzard, please stop with the ā€œNew character is OP at releaseā€ thing that both WoW and HotS usually had).

I could see them releasing a new class midway between expansions or as something to tide players over in a content drought. I’m not opposed to the idea.

Characters take time to design, animate and voice
It’s totally fair to charge for them
