Feels like POE that is to say a bit late but honestly I just hope they make something instead of trying to make something great.
Honestly, nowadays I have hundreds of mediocre games to chose from, including in the genre of ARPG. And dozens of good and great ones.
So I’m not interested at all in just “something”. I’m not buying a Diablo brand whatever it is - I’m buying a PRODUCT, if it’s good enough.
So unless it’s great - there’s no point. I simply don’t have time for it unless it’s one of the best games of the year.
That’s why I’ll completely reverse your sentiment. Hopefully they make something great instead of just making something and pushing it out before the deadline.
p.s. but I don’t trust the current Blizzard to make anything but mediocrity.
Yes, the scale is off; the hero needs to be smaller relative to the screen so we can see more of the map and run. This needs to go back to D2 scale, the D3 model doesn’t allow for characters to run properly and it hinders combat tactics. This looks too much like an action game again and too much like World of Warcraft. The graphics, lights, scale just scream WoW and Diablo 3 again. I thought D4 was supposed to have a new engine, this looks like they added on to Diablo 3.
Also, I see the 6 skill limit again. This isn’t good, at least let players hotkey 8-9 skills or ideally as many as the player wants.
Most of the mobs die instantly and don’t appear dangerous at all, combat could use some more dangerous monsters. I’d like to see some casters shooting bolts and lightning like D2 casters. Also need archers (archers and mages are dodgeable but we need RUN instead of a hoppy gait). Block should be in the game and have the same run/walk toggle mechanic that D2 used.
Yes, running needs to look way less clunky and there should be a RUN and walk. He does seem to be bouncing a bit when he runs, any runner will tell you they would never run like that. It’s inefficient to use the energy in an upward manner like that.
Looking at that demo, D2 looks a lot more exciting to me. That’s not good. It’s the scale and speed. Also, in D2 I can hotkey attack to my right click and move/auto attack by just holding rclick; I’d love for that to be an option.
Yay, regaining resources is back with a “generator move”. And a big pack died after the barb pressed one button, and now the button is on cool down. How compelling. This is exactly like Diablo 3, the art, the goat boys, it’s all the same.
Itemization is still pathetic shallow garbage. I certainly wont be buying a stupid kiddies action game at release, under the impression it was actually made for fans of ARPGS…
as ideal as your reply sounds, that s the reality of any red ocean market. And for giant like Blizzard it s better for them to make something mediocre and improve than to wait forever like this and let the competitor already be further ahead because they accepted the failures from the risk and made better products afterward.
But then again it is your opinion and you are entitled to your own.
From what they have shown so far, if you liked or loved D3, you are probably going to be satisfied/love D4. You may be annoyed about being stuck with a skill tree until you hit end game when Blizzard nullifies the point of a skill tree by allowing you to bit by bit unlock it all.
Looks like a darkened D3 with a couple tweaks to try to bait in those who preferred D2. I wonder if climbing will actually make it in or if it will get cut like last time with D3 along with 80% of the other features they showed before gutting the original release.
At this point in time(All subject to change)
If you loved D3, D4 appears to be a auto-buy.
If you didn’t love D3, skip the preorder and wait it out. Even when boredom strikes. Don’t get burned twice, make them earn that money.
I really only have one question: Is whirlwind available? Because that is literally THE barb move for me.
Only, that’s not how Blizzard works.
Look at HOTS. It was earning money, but not enough money. It performed below expectations. It has MULTIPLE ways it could be improved, including direclty improving the dumb monetization that gives players no incentive whatsoever to buy stuff.
But instead after only 2 years Blizzard just given up on it and moved on.
The only reason Diablo 3 was improved - was because it were basically very easy fixes both technically and ideologically.
If Blizzard makes a mediocre game - they will not keep improving it. They’ll move along. They are losing brand loyalty over the past years, and if D4 turns out to be anything but GREAT - then they’ll fall from grace completely.
Unless you love Diablo 3 prepare to be disappointed.
I do love D3.
I am still very sceptical. Because it looks like Blizz KINDA want to follow up on D3 ROS success, but at the same time they KINDA want to give people D2 aesthetics. And the result will probably be a mish-mash of old and new, unsuitable for both new and retro players.
And again, graphically so far it looks like a game that I would skip while browsing the store. Diablo franchise is pulling it up a bit, but if you discard the franchise it doesn’t look like a great game.
A new Blizzard game, a new DIABLO manages to visually look worse than any of the competition, including games from small studios.
Because THEY are trying their best to make great modern visuals, and D4 is trying it’s best to be visually similar to a 20 year old title.
imagine a game that is at least 2 years out from the time of that footage not having everything fully functioning and 100% ready to go.
its almost like the footage is from a small sample sized demo and not the full game…… almost.
As others already have pointed out, this is hardly any new footage. Regardless, my problem from a visual perspective is that it seems like the whole artstyle has been dipped in the color grey and frankly … it looks very bland. They should know that grey isn’t a particularly nice color to look at and should only be used scarcely rather than set the tone for the entire design. If this is what they thought the D1 & D2 fans meant when they asked for “darker” games than they have missunderstood completely.
As for the combat, from what I hear from those that actually tested the game it feels really fluid. And this is early in the levels so we should expect the pace to be quite a bit slower. How much it will ramp up later remains to be seen but I have no doubt that Blizzard will nail the combat aspect, they always have. D3 fans can breath freely because they will deliver on this front.
As for the rest of us ARPG fans that care about itemization and progression, the early systems shown do not impress. But this is very early and they have all the time in world to change this. I just hope they have a clear direction rather than going back and forth in the devlopment process constantly because then we might end up with a repeat release of D3. I’m eager to see their next quarterly update because the last one didn’t give me the impression that they had things figured out.
i think the way they want for diablo 3 is like albion online, but without the resources farming
Diablo 2 never had heroes that look like the D3/D4 version and the game is missing most of the monsters from D2. I think they just decided to get grittier, it kind of looks like Diablo 1 fused with Diablo 3.
not really far off though… its certainly an improvement in the dark and grim looking art department.
I imagine every dev on the team is facepalming at how awful the community is, they hear that d3 isn’t dark or grim enough for 10 years straight and then they make something darker and grimmer aand now people complain its too much. lose lose situation for them.
Honestly? Diablo was never a visually impressive game. Hell, my first thought when I installed D2 was that it’s graphics were worse than D1.
One thing I will agree with is that in their quest for realism, the color scheme of the game is looking pretty bland.
So dark (it is not dark scary at all) that I can’t see things properly. Is it supposed to be normal?
this reposted vid is not the best quality if you watch the original and still can’t see things clearly then I suppose go to the eye doctor because the resolution is crystal clear and everything stands out nicely. unless you are just someone who is complaining for the sake of complaining there are plenty of those around here too so I don’t know.
I just don’t like the greyish theme on everything. Take D2 for instance, there is nothing grey about Lut Gholein or Act 2, but it does still have a very different vibe to it than Act 2 in D3. There are other ways of making things “darker” than just changing the color palette.
such as? 20 characters…
