Yosemite (10.10) is below the system requirement for Diablo III for some time now. It’s possible that the game was working prior to then even though it was below the system requirements for some time and the latest patch had some changes that made it incompatible fully. It’s recommended to upgrade to at least Sierra (10.12.6) if possible.

The game won’t work in El Capitan either Caterpepi. Its target build minimum is now 10.12.6 as that is what the latest XCode can target. The game crashes in El Capitan just as it does in Yosemite.
Is there a way to downgrade Diablo 3 so we, the ancients, the few people who buy the game years ago, but still not buy a new computer can play again?

No, there is no way to downgrade the game. It’s an online only game and must be kept current to play I’m afraid. If your computer is not able to run at least 10.12.6 (Sierra), you’ll need to get a new computer or use Windows via boot camp.
