Constant Disconnects - Error 1016

Like others, I’ve been getting constant error 1016 disconnects lately. I worked through the troubleshooting guide, and the advanced guide. I’ve run WinMTR and posted the results below, but I need some help deciphering the results. To my ignorant eyes, this row seems to stand out based on the inflated Worst value, but I don’t really know what I’m looking at here, maybe the high percentage loss at the start is indicative of a problem?

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

There were 26% data packet loss starting from very beginning and through out the whole log. That means something very wrong between your computer and the first hop (router/modem). No wonder you got constant disconnection.

As the name “testwifi” suggest, I believe you are using WIFI connection. Try testing with wired connection. And, step #1 and #2 of the troubleshooting steps in this article:

You may want to try other steps if the above don’t work.

Unfortunately, I don’t have that option. I’ve got a Google Mesh wireless set up and I’m wired into one of the three nodes, but it’s still wireless from that node back to the main. I wasn’t sure if that loss was caused by the disconnect and thus not getting packets back that were sent, especially since that one row I pointed out only shows 813 sent when all the others are ~1120?

Data already lost in the router, it won’t reach the server at all.

The row you pointed out is not an issue because some network devices are configured to lower priority for testing messages.

WinMTR is an independent diagnostic tool. Nothing to do with the game.

You can still try step #1 and #2, and other steps.

First, thanks for the quick responses and assistance.

I did reset the modem and router previously, flushed my DNS, renewed my IP, updated my drivers, turned off windows defender etc., before I made my post for help.

Interestingly enough, I’m running WinMTR again, but letting D3 run in windowed mode so I can keep an eye on it, and so far, no issues. Maybe it means nothing though, I know I played for a couple of hours Friday night without issue so maybe just lucky right now?

Drayven,

With sporadic issues like this, it’s hard to tell, but I agree with Maskraider’s assessment. That early data loss may be crippling your connection. You might take note of when the problem happens. Are other people using the mesh network at the time to do things like stream or download large files? If so, it may be one of your mesh routers getting overloaded. You can also try moving the routers closer or moving your setup closer, or setting up additional routers to try to improve that packet loss situation.

Ultimately however, if none of those help you may need to get creative with your ethernet routing.

Well, the mesh access point is almost right on top of the PC, I was home alone, and I set my PC to high priority in the setup to make sure it took precedence over other traffic. I did manage to play for a few hours before getting disconnected again when I changed to running the game in windowed mode, but I don’t know if that was just coincidence or not. Though with only two people here, we never come close to hitting even a third of our speed, mostly just gaming on my side and podcasts on my wife’s end. Occasional movie streaming, but then that’s usually both of us together, not while I’m gaming. I did notice my car downloaded an update to the entertainment system, but that was overnight too, not while I was gaming.

I ordered a 33ft lan cable so I can plug directly into the router for trouble shooting, so we will see how that goes. It’s annoying, especially when it drops mid GR run and I lose the key. I won’t even touch HC with it acting like this.
