1.0 Introduction
It’s unbelievable that one of my all time favourite game gets a fresh overhaul and it’s
looking so incredibly good. It just blows my mind, how an empty hallway compared to the original game becomes filled with life by the new graphics, sounds, lighting and
animations. Creating a new dark atmosphere, that sometimes remember me of playing
Diablo 1. First of all I was sceptical, because of Warcraft 3 Reforged. But after playing the Alpha, I think you guys doing it 95% right. So let’s push the game together with the D2-Community to 100%, as the game deserves it.

1.1 Installation
I don’t know what’s more painful. Downloading D2R in 1,5 hours or installing D2 with four CDs, while swapping them like 20 times. Some things might not change after 20 years :wink:

2.0 Select Hero Screen
In the selection screen, every hero tries to get the players attention by each of their
animation. Each hero apparently suggests “I’m the best, choose me!”. It’s the first big
decision that the player have to make.

Therefore I have two major complains:
• Faces
• Gestures

The first point is also discussed in the forums. To be fair, everyone has their own
expectations and imagination, because the old game left much space for interpretation
caused by the low resolution and few details. And sometimes it might not be easy to
change a “comic” looking D2 into a “realistic” looking D2R. Where you have to get used to some new graphics, while you have played the old looking Diablo for 20 years.

For me the Amazon, Assasin, Druid and Paladin faces don’t match with the faces in the old game. Some people in the forum made some good examples, in which artstyle the faces could look like to match more the originals.

The second point are the gestures that feeling a little bit wrong.

Example. 1 Barbarian:
In the whole animation the Barbarian doesn’t break eye-contact with the player. He always hold his body tension. In the second image the arms are nearly creating a line with the shoulders. This focussing gives the character more conviction of his own strength. The new version breaks eye-contact and doesn’t keep his body tension.

Example. 2 Sorceress:
Same as the Barbarian. The old Sorceress keeping eye-contact and her body language,
gives her a lightness. The new Sorceress have to lift up her arm so much, that it looks
exhausting to cast lightning. To be fair, Christiaan Huygens would be proud of her, to cast lightning in the way of physics. But the old way is cooler and who if not a Sorceress (or a black hole) would be able to bend light.

2.0 Ingame graphics and animation

2.1 Rakanishu
Needs to be changed to the old purple/blue-look, also holds a shield in the original game.

2.2 Frozen Effect
The coloration of frozen bodies need a change from torquise to a more blueish look.

2.3 Portals
The animation of the portals in the old version are slightly oscillating around the
centerpoint. The portals are thicker and not fading into black. Also objects don’t clip
through the portal.

2.4 Clawviper
Heads looking abit to much “humaniod”.

2.5 Ghosts
They are to much “visable”. The right word here may “concise”. Body needs to be white,
the tail needs to be blue. Maybe a little transparency for the body.

2.6 Auras
Some aura-effects like frost aura or might should fading a little bit more.

2.7 Blizzard
Blizzard animation should be looking bigger (falling from the sky)

2.8 Lightning Spells/Effects
Lightning should be thicker. Also the color should change more to white, that it seperate more from ice like in the old game (lighning/white – ice/blue)

3.0 Gamechanges / QoL Updates
This topic isn’t easy, because the community splits into people that want changes and
people that want the game to stay close to the original as possible. As you do it, you do it wrong.

Maybe having different gametypes like “Classic”, “LoD Classic” and “LoD Ressurected”
could help to fix that issue. While the first two gametypes staying to the original game, the “LoD Ressurected”-gamemode could be implement addional QoL and gamefeatures. Also adding Mod support like an additional gamemode could be helpful.

The last half year, the Mod “Project Diablo 2” showed me, how good gamechanges in D2 could be done and still staying true and identical to the original game experience. New Endgame content besides Baalruns and Uber Tristram, a ton of QoL-Updates and various balancing of different builds to the original game (Yes, it is possible to play other build than Hammerdins and Lightning-Sorcs :wink: ).

QoL-Changes I like:
• higher tome capacity (30-50 scrolls per tome)
• auto identify single items (tome) by shift-leftclick
• advanced stats screen (not only adding values, also showing breakpoint etc.)
• “always shows items”-Function (No more ALT :slight_smile: )
• stackable runes/gems (finally, it becomes easy to collect gems for crafting)
• charm inventory (only for charms! -> in PD2 you could use it for Items too, so it
would balance the Inventory in early game)
• more shareable stash-tabs (especally if you make runes/gems not stackable) if you
have each of every gem- and rune-type, one stash-tab will be nearly full. I can
guarantee I will have more than 10 mule-chars, if the stashing capacity stays like in
the alpha.
• in single-player there should be infinite stash-tabs
• ladder-runewords in single-player
• advanced stats (itemlevel / statsrange)

• item filtering (I don’t want to see “minor healing potions”, arrows, bolts etc. when I
arriving in act2)
• cube recipies / Ingame-D2-Encyclopedia: Why using 20 years old Websites to find
out some runewords, cube recipies or to calculate your IAS? This information
belong into the game!

4.0 Bugs
-Long loading Times using TP to Town
-Frame Drops / Performance Issues in Town
-Game Crash after using Telekinesis
-Texture Bug while using Teleport
-Adding Potions from Inventory to Belt by holding Shift -> Character moves to Mouse
Cursor Location
-Sometimes Character Feets clipping to the Ground (ex. Akara or A2 Dunes)
-Maybe some Textures of the Shrine of Resist Fire are missing:
