I think putting a cap of the power you get from grinding paragon levels is a good idea, but it would be nice if there was at least some benefit to gaining paragon after p800 besides the occasional clutch heal on level-up.
With the altar gone, we lose double DB, double bounties, double primals, perks that weren’t powerful in a game changing way, but still felt good to have. Maybe the rewards you get from diabolical fissures are enough to offset losing those perks, but if they’re not, maybe we could earn material caches by reaching certain paragon milestones.
It doesn’t have to be these exact milestones but maybe every chunk of let’s say 250 paragon levels (after p800) could look something like:
- regular crafting mats (parts, dust, crystals, souls, db) every 20 levels
- bounty materials every 50 levels
- GR keys and a (few) petrified scream(s) on level 125
- primordial ashes on level 250
You could also throw in some mats for the hellfire amulet in there, maybe a Ramaladni’s gift (for those who just can’t find one) or an ancient puzzle ring or some flawless royal gems. The rewards don’t have to rock our world, but a little something might be nice nonetheless.
And I know it’s easy to say that something wouldn’t be hard to implement, when you are not involved in the actual development, but I don’t know, add the caches with their fixed content to the game (just reuse the challenge rift cache icon), on level-up throw the level value through a function that returns the appropriate cache and then put that in the mail. I might be naive, but it seems feasible to me and I don’t think tuning will be that much of an issue. If it’s undertuned, okay, bummer, but you still get more than nothing and I think you would really have to try to overtune it in a way where people go “This sucks, now I still have to grind for paragons”.
Just a thought.

Really good idea, actually.
Nice idea. I have an additional idea: to keep the p800 cap but remove the crafted primal limit so that we can (if we want) equip all 13/13 slots of crafted primals!
This way our season won’t be done when we reach 800, but instead, we’ll continue to farm drops, plus the additional rewards which you suggested, and hopefully craft 12/12 or 13/13 primals for our last new season of D3.

Maybe… increase the number of crafted primals you can equip at a time by +1 per 1000 paragon ranks (actual number to be discussed)
Double DB and auto-pickup DB are actually the things I won’t miss one bit. If anything I would turn the double DB node into “Treasure Goblins spawn in pairs” for the time when the altar returns with S30.
But the general idea that you can gain mats or other materials as paragon rewards is not bad. The quantity should increase with the total paragon you have, though. Because gaining more paragon should still feel rewarding if the time needed to level up becomes significantly longer later on. If the amount of reward doesn’t increase with the time invested there would be NO point in even trying.
I think +1 at 1000 (or 1500) might be okay, but if you go for +1 per 1000 you’re back to making players grind paragon for more power.
As I see it a reward structure beyond p800 shouldn’t make you grind because you want the rewards but it should make sure that you don’t get into a situation where you play for a couple of hours and get nothing out of it besides the souls you get from salvaging legendary drops.
Not really… I mean at some point you’d likely have primals on most slots, at least the important ones, anyway. Allowing players to equip addional primalized items won’t really add much power. It will, however, give you a bit more leeway with you gear.
This does nothing to fix the problem that capping paragon introduces into the game: You no longer have a way to progress your character when RNG screws you on drops.
The rewards you’re suggesting are laughably pointless. At P1050 I’ll have a lot more primal drops than 1.
