I know this most likely isn’t going to happen, but I’m curious what people think about the idea.
The addition of another difficulty beyond Hell, the return of Inferno difficulty… Yes that gruelingly difficult option from vanilla Diablo 3… Yes I said it, Diablo 3.
Versus Hell difficulty, monsters get 3x health, 3x damage, double immunities are common with the occasional triple immunities. (The health/damage numbers are just a guess, but definitely more immunities.) The difficulty would need to be extremely difficult (very slow) to impossible to solo, but be difficult to extremely difficult and even impossible for a group of different classes to tackle.
The rewards would have to be worth the risk/effort. Increased higher quality drops across the board (not sure how much), reduction of junk items. Also slightly higher area levels for experience gain for the race to 99, perhaps the current 85 areas at level 90.
Only if you balance the classes, and if Inferno is there for the challenge and no new gated content other than the additional quest rewards and perhaps a better drop rate for high runes, exceptional and elites. Heck, put it as a ladder/single player perk for the elites to challenge.
How about instead of inferno boosting areas, ilevels, alevels, all that jazz, it uses existing hell but nerfs you? You nerf yourself in favour of MF, in some kind of balancing mechanic on top of regular MF. You do still want the spread of area levels for the differing loot tables, unless you want the new inferno to have everything in it’s pool, which I would be against I think.
I suppose you could go about increasing the difficulty that way as well…
I was thinking more along the lines of a flat +5 to all hell area levels, which would make the lowest area level of 67, Blood Moor, at level 72. So no, not all areas would be capable of dropping every item in the game.
I feel like the balance on this could be really off. This would mean mephisto charms, and GC off other easy bossmonsters could drop Ilvl 90+ charms. I would not like this aspect.
Ya I get it, I’m just trying to avoid a loot bonanza difficulty cutting out all others. NM still has it’s loot drop bonus’ for certain items. Hell has a nice range of monter levels to alter the pools.
Dunno another difficulty seems to add more maths to track than my idea but I don’t mind ideas either way.
Maybe you can add punishments to game creation… all stats are nerfed %25 for a bonus of %50 increased MF… or I dunno something that can be applied to norm nm and hell making them all more difficult but keeping loot pools intact. Not saying I’m for this, just brain farts.
Would also need new monsters or monster mechanics at some point either way to freshen things up.
Yes, they would drop charms of this level… However as I said, the difficulty level should be extremely difficult to impossible to solo, and difficult to impossible even for groups to tackle even with high level gear, torch, charms etc. If you were somehow able to solo, it’d be incredibly inefficient to farm these ilvl charms. If you want to collect those even for cubing, you’d be better off farming them from Hell Baal.
Besides, your chances of rolling a 40+ life skiller grand charm are stupid low anyways.
No, i would vehemently oppose your suggestion, all that does is restrict more and more builds., its the same “infinite scaling” bs that d3 and poe has
i wouldn’t be completely opposed to say “inferno” mode just being making ever area lvl 85. thereby giving more options for areas to farm endgame items that might make you deal with less immunizes for your specific build while still being lvl 85 areas
but even that would pose issues with “cow level”
as that would would instantly be the only placed farmed, as cows have the 3rd best chance to drop HR’s out of any monster in the game and they have easily the best single monster density. otherwise i would support the full lvl 85 inferno difficulty. but i cant figure out how to solve that issue without either ruining cow level by comparison or making it the best way to farm
Again, this probably isn’t going to happen. It’s just a thought experiment to see what people think about it. Thank you all for your thoughts on the idea.
If you can teleport to a super unique or to an act boss and grind loot almost as easily as on Hell, then the entire point of this difficulty is not a challenge, but to establish a new meta for loot grinding. If you had just said “There shouldn’t be an increase in loot drop rate” I would’ve at least called you sincere, but all this is, is “I know how to pimp my Sorc and ride Andariel, The Countess and Mephisto for gear.”
I’d be up for it, as long as there isn’t anything more. 3-4 difficulties sound about the right amount. Current D3 difficulty is absurd and shouldn’t ever be a thing in ARPGs.
