Thanks for all the info so far… for sure there will be more questions to come
Here i will play with the planer for this build:
https://d2.maxroll.gg/d2planner/1s01068t
Forgot to mention that it also really depends on how the fhr on your dreams turns out. If you get both with horrible fhr it may not even be possible to hit the 86fhr bp without sacrificing a lot of life mods from charms.
Another question … why not Cryptic Sword for Passion ?
Well for one, the pb doesn’t require repairs. Also the cryptic sword is a slower base attack speed, and you wouldn’t be able to hit the fastest Zeal.
You are correct and honestly 15 15 eth treks are probably BiS for this build from a defensive standpoint, and travs are better offensive. It doesn’t happen often but there are some fire+lite immune elites where having that extra bit of dmg from travs just feels good to have, though it may not seem like a lot its 15-25 physical dmg per hit of the zeal and it gets doubled with deadly strike. This comes in handy during uber fights especially against meph who wont be taking any damage from lightning. Theres not a lot of room in LoD stash and carrying both treks and travs for swap doesn’t work lol.
Almost there, few more levels and i will try it. In the mean time you can check the rolls of FHR at d2 planer links that i provided.
this d2 planner link? using ap coh kinda defeats the point of using treks tho, and the 14 extra str req negates the 15 str on boots. youve got and extra 20 str that is not used. if those are the dream rolls hey ive had worse, at least the res isnt horrible, the 20fhr helm tho eeek. i love that fhr attack rating gc
Once i reach lvl90 i will switch to this build and will optimise str. We will see how it will go the final build
At what level do you recommend to start this build ?
I’m at 87 right now with mine, exactly like the maxroll link for D2R. I have been using it since level 80 I wanted to provide alternatives to the BiS gear and actually test them myself. It is just starting to get to where it needs to be. I would advise someone first trying this build to respec for it at 90+, at which point you can cover all the skills and have enough points into vit. There are mobs that hit hard and being at 1200 or so life after BO is dangerous lol, I’m at about 1638 life right now iirc, but over 2k is where I’m headed.
Almost there

Need to change 3 Grand Charms Skillers with one with at least 30 life.
One of the small charms will become 30+ Attack Rating / 20 Life instead of 36 Attack Rating / 5 Hit Recovery.
For the moment i will not comment on how this build plays on Hell because i need some more time with it to feel it and to be more fare in my judgement.
For now what i can say is that on Normal and Nightmare this helm aura just obliterates everything it’s not even funny
It’s a playstyle unlike any other. In some cases you will want merc to go in first and get things confused, like the Nihlathak fight and 2nd seal Lord Desies for example. Another trick I use is to walk to the side and let the adds get away from the main boss/elite before telestomping such as countess, and some packs with the fanatasism aura. It does take a bit to get used to I guess, I’ve been playing it so long I forget what it was like at the beginning. Don’t freak out when your mana gets burnt, I used to pot every time it happened now I dont even look at mana. You will go through heals and juvs at times for certain enemies, some people are bothered by that but personally I don’t mind the split second it takes to grab some more from the ground. Once I got a feel for it though it became harder and harder to play anything else.
Sometimes when i try to attack a monster my char starts to shutter … i never played mele character… is that that i am on a hit recovery ?
is it the zeal animation? hit recovery is when you get hit and your char takes a sec to be able to do anything the hit recovery makes that faster.
Nice looks like you are having fun with it lol. I could be mistaken but it looks like you forgot to enchant yourself and merc in the vid >.<
yes, i did forgot to enchant myself and the merc… which is even more impressive
Edit:
Actually i did enchant myself but forgot the merc… which is semi impressive
I am playing with the skillers now… if i change the 5 +fire skillers to +light then i get 10K light DMG increase and loosing only 500 fire. Why you are using fire skillers and not light. Keep in mind that i have Infinity.
I use fire skillers because they add fire damage, attack rating, and mana recovery. Even with infinity there are still light immunes that won’t break and having the extra fire damage just makes sense. The extra lite damage isn’t really needed you 1 zeal just about anything but bosses anyway, and you have to realize that lite dmg is added to your max, where as the fire adds to min dmg, which is a big difference. The extra chant attack rating and damage are worth it. Hitting 2 out of 5 swings with zeal for 10-60k verses hitting 4 out of 5 swings for 20-50k is the way I look at it. The extra warmth points also helps mana recovery from mana burn and for teleporting.
This build also changes into bear for ubers and Meph doesn’t take lightning damage so having the fire gcs makes sense there too. It’s a PAIN in the butt to swap all your fire gcs for light gcs every game to prechant. There’s also only so much space in LoD stash to put all the required gear, I realize it’s different in D2R.
I switched for test to Energy Shield. Somehow it feels better. The build i use is not the regular Energy Shield where you put all your Stats Points into Energy. It’s the same “whats left to vitality” build but i use some of the skill points to pump the Telekinesis and Energy Shield. Some of the Fire Mastery points are missing but i am still experimenting and the power seems quite enough. Here is a video of clearing Chaos Sanctuary.
Ya some people like to use energy shield, I don’t like it unless it is maxed out and have the other gear to make it effective aka immortal sorc, but in that case you don;t have much room left to be effective at melee. The mana burn mobs take away for ES instantly and you have to then gain mana and recast it’s just a pain. Theres people who swear its worth a few points but I’ve played sorc for so long and tried it so many times I just disagree with ES unless it’s maxed.
I would much rather invest my extra points into more fire damage and better defense/more cold damage. Remember the fire mastery works like the lite mastery multiplying your fire damage twice. It multiplies when you chant and again when you strike. This is why you have so much lite dmg because 2 x dream auras multiplied by lite mastery then multiplied again when you hit. The points in shiver armor adds cold damage and will give you a huge boost to defense which means you’ll get hit a lot less, and the cold mastery points basically double all your cold damage from the dual ravens, shiver armor, and any cold dmg from charms.
As stated in the guide, this build is for a melee sorc that can quickly swap a few pieces of gear and be ready to do ubers without having to respec. Uber mephisto doesn’t care how much lightning damage you do but the extra fire and cold damage does matter. The ES will get obliterated in ubers as soon as you cast it unless you invest some serious points into ES and mana gear.
If you are just doing a zeal sorc for mf and not using it for ubers, then the dual dreams + lite mastery + infinity will wreck just about everything, it’s more about just finding a way to increase your survivability. I’m not saying that using ES is a bad idea if that’s your thing, it’s just not my flavor. I don’t enjoy carrying mana pots taking the space of full juvs or heals, and mana burn mobs make it useless.
Edit : Would also like to add that it looks like some skill changes are coming we will see what they do with it.
For some reason I had both maxroll links going to same D2R sorc, it is fixed now and the LoD link works correctly again.
eidt : updated D2R sorc maxroll link with newest gear. I’m also planning on putting together a minimal gear required maxroll link.
