I agree, but being realistic, they have been around for so long they are not going away. If they add new content, wish i am sure they will, most likely we will just get more runewords.
But i do think finding your best in slot is MUCH more exciting then farming some crappy runes, like you can find a griffons eye for your javazon for example.
Defense is amazing, actually. I toggle run/walk all the time to avoid getting hit as I move thru the weeds.
Did you not know that you keep your defense when you walk? With run speed mods, you still move fairly fast.
Can you imagine how many complaint threads about drop rates there would be?

Speed of runs are gonna be reduced by walking, even with alternating with the button to go faster. Net negative on the run. Also a major hassle. I donât know about mods but Blizz probably wouldnât be to happy with one being used on bnet.
I kinda agree. For instance I really hate spirit Monarchs. They are SO cheap, and so much better than any alternative. bye bye lidless wall and co.

Have to agree. I think itâs time Blizzard buffs all of the old unique items and sets and release it in a new ladder season.

There should not be many weapons on the level of GRIEF.
Thus, OP runewords should be nerfed instead.
They shouldâve done something with the rares and crafts instead of making runewords like Enigma and Grief way back when. Itâs probably the reason why you can still see some crafted or rare +2 ammies being used on high level characters - you canât make runewords in amulets, and a top tier crafted caster amulet is just chefs kiss But the toothpaste is out of the tube now. I canât see any simple fix for OP runewords, short of something completely drastic like rust stormiing and grandfathering old runeword items, which would have weird effects on the economy (1.08 Arkaineâs Valor anyone?)
they increased the difficulty like crazy from 1.09 to 1.10. if you remember the switchover from 1.09 to 1.10, withour runewords and synergies you were basically like a level 10 if you had a level 99 bowazon or javazon or whirlwind barb or orb sorc or whatever the generic builds were in 1.09. you would get destroyed in act 1 by quill rats with old 1.09 builds. they also aimed to balance the classes so that people would actually play other things. assassins, druids, necromancers all, finally, had a chance to be prolific within the game besides the same 4 mega builds across 7 classes (not even one per class in 1.09 and not even two between a single class) that were prior to 1.10 and it leveled the playing field by a lot.
It used to be like that before 1.13. High runes above Lem were ~5-10 times less common, and the most common drops were El, Eld etc. Now itâs changed where Tal, Ort, Thul etc are most common.
Yeah that was the way it should have stayed. Besides enigma. Teleport is such a necessary mechanic and teleport staffs are too expensive to compete with sorc mf farming abilities.
Question, if some items are so rare, that only 0.1% of players get to enjoy them, whatâs the point in putting them in the game?
Some builds got nerfed so badly the only way to make them work is with those crazy Runewords like Fortitude, Grief and Faith.
100x more rare than Zod? been playing D2 since 2000. only now in 2021 have i found my 1st Zod rune ever.

Idk, some runewords are powerful donât get me wrong, but so are some uniques, some sets, some rares, even some magical items can be better. Though of course always room for improvement, I think itâs fine/good as is.

while i like those types of things unless you do what say Aion (i think it was. korean mmo) does with its pvp where the highest rank player on each faction gets a 1 per server item to turn them into a raid boss once a day.
like something that actually has a hard limit to how many can be obtained at 1 time.
without that making stuff ârare enoughâ to be super special in a multiplayer game that focuses on trading is largely dependent on the number of people playing.
if you have a 1 in a million drop chance but you have 10 million people playing theres going to be 100âs of those items in a month.
but if you only had say 20 people playing the game it could take years for that 1 item to be found.
and at the same time if you did have a hard limit on acquisition yous also need a way to transfer it and make it available to others (like say kill the person and theyâll drop it for you to loot)
korean MMOs have often this kind of lottery thing.
I played ragnarok online before and there was a chance of 0.01% to get a OP item of a monster that spawned like every 1h and was hard to beat.
Item literally read: makes you immune to all magical effects. Yeah whoever got this item was basically invincible in pvp.
In D2 it isnât one item, but you are lucky enough or spend enough money, you can get so many powerful items that you will destroy everyone as well in pvp.
Runewords for me are fun, but the drop rate of runes are sketchy because many fun builds (i.e. cannot really farm effectively even with best gear) require ultra expensive RWs.
I would rather wish that runes are at least triple the drop rate they have now but the would change how the base item works and those are much much rarer.
So e.g. you could find base weapons with 100% ED and 20max dmg, those should be mega rare, but it would be easier to find a 4s base weapon and make the runeword for fun you like, but it will be quite a lot weaker than the end game variant that has those powerful modifiers. I guess that was their idea with the cheaper rune words, but those have not really the same effect (e.g. conviction, fana aura or other powerful mods that makes or breaks a build)
The runes are generally rarer than the items you listedâŚunless itâs a very class specific rune word. thatâs why they are are more powerful.
I have always enjoyed then. Game would be awful if the best item was a windforce lol
