Ultrawide Screen Black Bars? Realy?

Ok, this is fair. Though I’m not personally convinced that the pvp advantage and teleport advantage is so important that it should limit people’s hardware.

If you’re super into pvp for this game, maybe go get an ultra wide monitor? Or play with the handicap? Seems excessive to me to limit hardware capability in any game. Are there games that do this?

i think pvp could be fixed that you make a game and check a box with max 16:9

This could be the best compromise. At game creation you can designate it as pvp and that would limit the aspect ratio in game. Seems like a good solution that makes pvpers and people with ultra wide happy!

well, we will see what will do blizzard, if they will listen us, or blind them eyes as usual.

We don’t want any advantage, we just want to play our lovely game in full screen.

I BOUGHT this exclusively for ULTRAWIDE as ADVERTISED…FIX PLEASE

Yeah, I had been eyeing an ultrawide monitor for a while and the Alpha footage pushed me to purchase one because it looked beautiful and immersive. Surprised Blizz still hasn’t clarified whether it’s only disabled for online or not.

Maybe we get some answers tomorow after some man get agrement from his boss and after this boss ask his boss etc, what to tell us, its sunday no suprise to me we have no answers.

One prominent example would be another Blizzard game:
Overwatch

It also doesn’t provide ultrawide support.

I can understand if older games don’t support ultrawide but I can’t understand if games come out in 2021 that don’t. None of this is rocket science. If you think of ultrawide formats right from the start when developing games and incorporating that into development, it almost goes by itself. Diablo2 had to be changed from 4:3 to 16:9 anyway. So it’s just logical to think of 21:9 right away. I hope we can finally find out something from an official source tomorrow.

I can live with it even though it’s easy to force an aspect on 4k monitors to see more than most ultrawides if pure view is the issue…but then they have black bars :stuck_out_tongue:

I will say they can do it much better, should make the map not be covered by the bars, make them fade more over straight black…and in lit environments masking out the npcs and not environment might be better and less noticeable.

More about doing it cleanly then just black.

LOL no you’re not . 20

Its not whether they should or not, they advertised it with ULTRAWIDE, thats why I bought it, if they want to disable it for PVP, so be it, I dont give a BLEEP about PVP. SOlong its ULTRAWIDE for single player experience. I BOUGHT IT for ULTRAWIDE as advertised, so MAKE it Happen…

Ohhh very interesting, thanks for sharing. I guess most first person shooters would have that limit. Is there ultra wide in Fortnite?

I’ll have to test Halo MCC on my pc, and see if it allows ultra wide.

I have a ultrawide monitor and a 16:9@144hz and, LMAO nope, I’m not playing any single competitive shooter in the ultrawide, the 144hz are much superior. And related to your question, if I remember well, Fortnite has full support of ultrawide, but as I say, a guy with a 16:9@144/240hz has more advantage over you than an ultrawide guy.

The ultrawide is just to have more inmesion in games and to make them look more beautyful. Red Dead Redemption 2 looks so astonishing with the ultrawide.

If someone wants any advantage in any competitive game FPS>Resolution.

OMG, this again…This can be fixed by disabling spells/skills from triggering outside of the 16:9 area. PoE does this already. If people on UW want to pvp then black bars appear when it gets flagged. Problem solved.

I probably will one day…next question…

Teleport is already limited to 16:9 area - I tested it earlier in the thread.

Blizzard just need to hide NPCs, players and objects that aren’t within the 16:9 area and we would all be happy for the black bars to be removed. The black bar “fix” is an extremely lazy solution… everything is rendering beneath those black bars, using GPU resources, which is ridiculous.

All things being equal expect aspect ratio, wouldn’t you want more of the game to show in Fortnite with 21:9 than 16:9?

Seeing more horizontally would always be better.

I’ll refund If 32:9 Is supported in pvp :)))

No, higher hz on monitor is better than that little vision advantage in fps games, also it’s harder to win straight up duels when your mouse needs to travel bigger distance due to ultrawide monitor.
You can even see more in csgo with ultrawide, it’s rarely used.
