fact of the matter is simple. ladder only things suck. old D2 i alwyas modded the game to gain access to ladder only things in single player, not only does this include runewords, but it was the only way i ever was able to do uber diablo (you know the event that was added to get rid of duped items) and the only way i was ever able to even try ubers. people tend to forget more then just runewords where locked behind ladder. 10 years after the launch of the game the only 2 ways to get that gear was to spend all your time on a dead online service filled only with bots or to mod the damn game. I was enjoying getting to play with all the toys i never got to as a kid because i didnt dedicate 10 hours a day every day to the game back then

What are you even talking about? Did you read or understand what I said at all? If not, what sort of player are you, if you’re a casual or self found only player then this really doesn’t have any sort of affect on you at all, so why are you even responding? You’re doing what Zax did and totally misunderstanding what this is even about.

So yeah, my prior comment applies. Sorry if you disagree. Don’t want to participate in Ladder? Don’t. You’ve got a choice.
Problem with people like you is that you dont care about others, you dont care about bigger picture, how this setup is made to make season exctiing for majority of people who will play it. You care only about your own fun and not seeing bigger picture and how it will be good for game in general.
It is just like purists, they are ok with game to die just to have it unchanged for them.

At least this post is relevant to the discussion at hand. It’s just frustrating that they would lock new rune words behind ladder, and it seems at least I’m not the only one who thinks that.
Aren’t you projecting here a little bit? How does my and other people wanting access to rune words keep people who enjoy ladder from playing it? If they added the rune words to the actual game at the end of the season I wouldn’t have as big an issue with ladder only runewords but being only available through trade when ladder ends isn’t great.
Aren’t you one of them with your not wanting /players8 available on Battlenet?

It’s not just non ladder players that are upset, but those who wish to play offline and enjoy the thrill of finding something great in a single player only mode without trading for items.
Having an excuse to make and gear out a new character and/or race to 99 should be the only incentive needed to play ladder. Please don’t ruin other modes for everyone.
In 2 months I had multiple godly characters in D2R trading for upgrades (in game and discord). 14K blizzard with 200 MF, Zealer with Grief, Phoenix, Fort to easily solo Ubers, GG Mercs, etc.
So I stopped playing as there wasn’t as much to do or find. I prefer solo offline play with /players 8 and not trading as it will take longer to acquire everything but more fulfilling, but not if I can’t get access to new runewords. No interest to play online again.

Oh yeah, didn’t even think of this. It’s even worse for offline players because they can never get ladder only rune words.

It’d be fine if we had the character slots to actually play ladder, but as it is, yeah it’s not really a good thing. Hopefully they do the right and necessary thing and add more character slots, and “all will be forgiven, Marius”

kinda funny to make the purists ok with a game dieing cause they want it unchanged argrument when you also mentioned above relock all the old ladder only stuff. The way i read your comment it sounds like you are that purist that is ok with a game dieing to have it unchanged

Lol yes, that’s what I saw as well. Also I think he’s one of the people who is vehemently against /players 8 for battlenet players. So, seems sortof hypocritical of him.
Unfortunately, people think there needs to be an incentive to participate in a race. The race doesn’t interest me, but fresh starts kind of do. 4 months though? I think 3 months would be the ideal length of time…keep things fresh and interesting, but won’t become too stale. Like, right now, I got bored with softcore D2R Expansion. I have been playing hardcore D2R Expansion and softcore D2R Classic lately.
Not wanting /players 8 on battle net has nothing to do with being ot not being purist. Its simply bad game decision. They need to support team play, not kill it with /players X on battle net.
Because if you add new runewords to nonladder, its one less interesting thing why would people play ladder. Its not good. Diablo 2 on battle net was always kept alive by seasonal play. Only small portion of player base kept playing nonladder because its get boring once you have all.

Special ladder stuff will be on nonladder once season ends as all items made on ladder will become nonladder. So nonladder players can enjoy new items also. If they dont want to play season, they just have to wait for a while.
Yea, if they pay xxx fg or $$. Great design.
Would be much better if they took PoE approach ane let us find/make the new items in nonladder once the ladder has ended, while making some new ones for the next ladder and so on.

Ladder only runewords are a terrible approach imho. Hopefully they will be available to non ladder and single player after the season is over. I thought Blizz had already heard the feedback on that, guess not.

ladder only anything is a terrible idea period. the first time i learned of uber trist i made a ladder character to do it. because of how unforgiving loot drops are in LoD i had garbage gear. the day i finally got the rune i was looking for to keep progressing was the day after a ladder reset thus making the recipie i wanted to use inaccessible to me. i am unintrested in spending all my time grinding for items so i can do the end level stuff only to have access to that stuff be ripped away from me because i took too long finding the gear i needed.
Edit: also i shouldnt have to “trade” for gear. this game’s name is diablo 2, not stock market simulator

No reason at all to make any new content ladder only. Players who want to play ladder (such as I will) will do so because of the fresh start and the competition.
Please reconsider adding these new runewords to offline play as well, as when I’m done with ladder, or don’t have a connection, I’d love to continue my offline grind without knowing there’s content I’m suddenly not allowed to experience.
