The war on bots - the dealbreaker of D2R

I can’t guess what % of players advocating for FFA loot only are pickit users,
but I guarantee 100% of pickit users want FFA loot.

I don’t think so at all. I think you have difficulty understanding people have a different opinion than you so you assume their intentions.

I understand why people want personal loot. I don’t agree with those reasons and think they are hurtful to the game so I will advocate against them. That’s really the beginning and end of my stance against it.

Solutions/idea that I don’t think “hurt” the game I simply just highlight their flaws or issues rather than an outright argument against it.

Yeah keep telling yourself that gamer’s don’t cheat ever… pffft, what a joke.

Get off your moral high horse bud…

As long as there’s a game, there will be cheaters…

Happens in real life too and people get away with it all the time.

Everyone uses maphack in D2 and turbohud in D3 because it helps save time and takes away the guessing.

Bots are going to happen in D2R, so will item farming websites… because underneath that fresh coat of paint, it’s still D2.

A lot of cheaters aren’t even in a position to understand they’re doing something wrong.

I was 13 when I first played D2 and the online experience was bad enough to drive me to cheat almost right away. I didn’t understand the repercussions, it just made the game better and easier for me.

You can’t assume all cheaters are 50 year old neckbeards, and that’s why it’s important to plan around cheaters with things like personal loot.

I more concerned with stuff like the cheats people had in D2 that gave them max FCR/FHR without needing the items to do so.

On Youtube, Kolbot users are complaining about frequent ban(s) on original Diablo 2. It’s definitely going to be less profitable and less easy to do but there will be bots for sure.

If it looks like Diablo 3, I will be quite happy honestly. I don’t play the game but a friend of mine does and he tells me it is totally tolerable.

It would be great if the client seamlessly download the map as they progress (and not load the entire map as they enter the game). I hope they have changed how the server transmits map data, It would make botting and map hack much less effective.

There was that suggestion of Asking a Question or adding a captcha of some kind after x amount of games. It was genius and should be implemented

Pay 10 bucks a month and then you can be mad. And no one wants to pay monthly.

Until then it’s a perfect bot repellent.

Please read what I said again. It’s not.

Korean grinders and other MMOs have tried this tactic before. People just made bots that can read and solve captcha. It’s not that hard.

It’s not a repellent at all. It’s going to inconvenience players, not bots.

Also, remember that some players have vision disabilities or reading disabilities and may not be able to complete captcha easily.

Nothing about that solution is good. You’re not a game developer and you clearly have not done any research. =)

This is also one of my most important issues, iv never really imagined that it is an unsolvable issue, that its impossible to secure a game even with a company like blizzard. if nothing else, i would think they could do a stronger reporting mechanism and follow through, if thats all they could do id be ok with that

They def could of stopped bots and cheaters by just not making it cross platform. I was kinda sad when I read that it was cross platform, if it was ps5 only or switch only ect than the economy on those 2 would be fine. Just check neverwinter nights or star trek economy on playstation vs pc. People cheat less if thier ps5 is gonna be banned for it.

But every one seems to like cross platform but me. It literally was the only reason I had a playstation. I got rid of it when they made everything cross platform, there’s no reason to have a low end gaming console vs a pc if it’s just gonna be cross platformed, as the only advantage of the playstation was no one cheated.

Another example is no man sky, on pc you can use all kinds of cheats, on playstation there was 0. Elder scrolls online is another one, on playstation there is no cheaters , on pc people can teleport all over.

Blizzard banning program and report system is terrible, just look at heroes of the storm. All the people do is get 100 accounts and report one person till they get banned. Blizzard doesn’t monitor the reports they get, it’s just a bot. The only way to stop cheating is if it’s on a console with no cross platform, or have some kind of thing like steam where it bans your entire steam account.

Since none of that is gonna happen, the only way to stop cheaters is make fun of people who buy from bots .

Making fun of people who buy off bots , isnt going to stop anything, and people who buy off bots arnt gonna tell some guy who intends to make fun of them, so your solution to fix cheating isnt a solution at all

Imagine thinking bullying is a legitimate way to solve problems

Sure it is, and people def do tell about cheating. Especially to thier personal friends, especially when you got a friend that works all the time and all of a sudden has everything, you know they cheated, just make fun of them. It def has a effect.

There is no solution to cheating other than making it ps5 or switch only. Pc players cheat enmass, and there is literally no way to stop it. Playstation or switch on the other hand are more controlled, and people won’t cheat when thier console will brick it self if they are caught cheating. Not to mention how much harder it is to do.

Next time your friend admits to cheating make fun of them, it def works.

Man making fun of some one for cheating is not bullying holy christ, who told you that making fun of people who are doing wrong things is bullying? Next your gonna tell me I bully the person in line cause they are being a karen and holding up the line for every one.

The only person I can come up with for thinking making fun of cheaters is bullying are cheaters. No wonder cheating is rampant you think if you call them out and make fun of thier cheating it’s bullying…

bul·ly1

/

gerund or present participle: bullying

  1. seek to harm, intimidate, or coerce (someone perceived as vulnerable).

So according to your logic cheaters are vulnerable, which they aren’t. Your logic dictates that making fun of a bully makes you a bully, and that just doesn’t even remotely make sense.

Calling someone a karan is bullying, being mean to your friends legitimately, will leave you with out friends.

If my friends want to cheat im not gonna harass them to “stop cheating” i value my friends more then i care about a game

Grow up and have a bit of human decency, putting people in little boxes to justify treating them badly is just a way to be a crappy person and try and feel good about it

If someone is cheating report it and let blizzard deal with it

Sure, botters cheaters and bank robbers are all my friends , ill live in a mansion with a moutain of cocain, next to tony Montana

Keep up your strawman mate, your arguments are unbeatable and infallible. Good job i lose

My brother and I went down this road. It would take like a team of ten people making approx 120,000 a year to counter bots. It would likely take approx a month to fully kill off a bot. That is looking at the code of the bot. Figuring out a way to detect it that is not going to infringe on the usage of normal players. Incorporating new code into the game to detect the things showing it is a bot. Testing the incorporated code to make sure it doesn’t screw the game up or cause any new bugs. Then patching the game live. Then having a person dedicated to complaints caused by the new patch. That is if they were to release security only patches. If it is released with a larger patch roll out then it is harder because you need to determine which part of the patch cause which issue.

The above only works for bots players can download. If it is a company selling items I know for a fact having actually ran into owners who were playing online and showed me proof and through forums. They run their own custom coded bots. To get rid of them adds a whole nother level of complexity to it.

Which if done right it can be done but, it would require more people like another group of 10 people dedicated to just that and it would need to monitor what is going on, on a persons computer. You then have to deal with false positives. You need to analyze every action done by a player. You need to basically be glorified spyware. You also need to make sure Anti Virus companies don’t flag you every update. You need to send that program to AV companies for them to evaluate and update on their software to not flag before release etc. You also have to realize there are people with aspergers or who are on the spectrum that play games like this. Because of this there is a chance of banning someone who are legitimate but, their brain acts more methodical and thus will act like a bot.

So you are talking at least 2mil per year, every year, just for fighting bots. It can be done and I would love to help Blizzard with this if they wanted help on this front. I have lots of ideas on how it can be done and done effectively. It can be incorporated into battle.net app or ground up for Diablo 4. But, easy it will not be. If done cheap will allow things to get past. But, as mentioned above you will never achieve 100% no bots.

 honestly dont argue. Its pointless. Some people just like to call anyone with different opinion ad cheater or supporter of cheating. I was evebn called cheater for making D2 mods.

Few active emploeeys with job to identify cheaters would be enough for players base of 60 000 people. You can hide from automatic detection. You will not hide bot from person actively checking you.
