Are you on console? No you’re not, so you don’t have experience with what these people are talking about. Whens the last time you used a controller?
You want to tell me with controller you loosing your reading ability? I didnt know this can happen.
If you deleted your character you probably deserved it and you needed that for personal growth. lol
Seriously… the only confirmation pop up you get is when you are deleting a character. Exit Diablo button quits the game immediately.
I’m playing with a controller and you don’t even need to click on the X, rather you just have to press X on the controller and yet I’m simply not dumb enough to do it by accident and if I did, I wouldn’t be dumb enough to confirm it.
Get it together people. There is nothing worng with the UI. It’s you. If you deleted your character by accident, perhaps you should read a book instead.
Dont forget also the tutorial phase. Its also tells you what that x button is doing. But you know with attitude like: “Ahh tutorial who cares…are you sure you want to delete your charater?..ah who cares”
I must tell you that some ppl here on the forum have tough skin on their face to use word “accidentaly”. Typical “do everything to not live with the choices i made” mentality.
True.
My char just disappeared, and I might have deleted it. I don’t know.
The warning pop-up looks similar to the ordinary close-the-game-dialogue pop up.
It would be very easy to fix this with a “type: delete” command. It’s very rare that you actually need to delete a character, and the “x” is not very telling. It is placed in a corner-position too.
Hopefully VV will take this minor effort to save a lot of frustrations.
There are no “close-the-game-dialogue”
Pay attention. The game instantly closes when you click Exit Diablo 2 button.
The problem is everyone wants to do stuff in a hurry and don’t pay attention to what they are doing. How can you people even keep your jobs? Watch what you are doing.
I never had the problem because I use the ESC key to exit but I can understand that some people may confuse it over a Exit button. Red X seems to be standard when closing apps, just looked at my Firefox close button and it’s a red X. Wouldn’t hurt to have the X replaced with a Delete button instead.
Let’s see:
- The “Delete” button is under the character list
- The “Delete” button has a tooltip that says “Delete [character?]”
- Clicking the “Delete” button will display a confirmation pop-up with “Yes/No” options
- The real “Exit Game” button already exists on the left side menu.
And somehow, it’s UI’s fault that people delete their characters?
If you’re carelessly clicking around, there’s no “idiot proof” measure strong enough to prevent you from making stupid mistakes.
For the record, I’m not opposed to them “fixing” the problem, but come on.
Dropped my controller. Hundred hours gone. Great design blizzard. Couldn’t have copy pasted your deletion type in code from WoW?
So what about it being 2 buttons? I dropped my controller and it deletes? Should I have just been less clumsy?
If you lost 100 hours, sounds like they did you a favor by making characters easy to delete. Use the opportunity to go outside I guess?
But it isnt broken… Its a delete character button that is deleting characters…
What you want is a different icon or some more fail safes for your own, admitted, obsession of red X’s and the need to push them.
You should adjust your thread title, its very misleading to what you want.
It’s funny that so many people think this is at all debatable
Yourself included???
The whole idea of the various UI/UX elements we use in our daily lifes, is streamlined to mean the same, is that we won’t use time and effort to make decisions. An X has always meant closing an interim screen or app. and if one has been using computers long enough, the meaning of symbols becomes instinctively something we know, and don’t have to think twice about.
Imagine, if someone decided to make a traffic light, where red meant go, and green stop? Would people, ponder, if this particular red light meant stop, or would they, as they’ve been conditioned to, automatically assume it means stop?
bUt tHeRe iS a SiGn wHy dOnT yOu jUsT ReAd!?
It does prompt you when you use ESC to exit, and unfortunately both prompts share the same overall size, text color, and text size.
You are awfully angry for someone who didn’t even delete their own character.
Ya working on UIs is my profession, so I’m a little passionate about it.
Happened to me at the start, thankfully I deleted a level 1 character and now have that warning forever.
I got lucky, doesn’t mean someone else will.
