Suggestion to make Zod useful

I think a good way to make Zod more useful is to turn it into a high rune wild card - add cube recipes that let you turn 1 Zod into other high runes:

Zod Rune + 1 Perfect Emerald = Ohm Rune
Zod Rune + 1 Perfect Diamond = Lo Rune
Zod Rune + 1 Perfect Topaz = Sur Rune
Zod Rune + 1 Perfect Amethyst = Ber Rune
Zod Rune + 1 Perfect Sapphire = Jah Rune
Zod Rune + 1 Perfect Ruby = Cham Rune

I pick the gems to mirror the existing cube recipes for these runes. A side benefit is that it at least ensures that Cham has a minimum value of 0.5 of any other HR should you make a Zod with 2 Cham.

This would also be helpful for single player, where finding the correct high runes is painful and finding a Zod you don’t need can really sting.

I mean, zod is pretty useful for making godly ethereal weapons indestructible already.

pretty sweet idea man i like it, i think it should be a litter harder then 1 pgem but…

maybe

Zod + Zod = Jah

Zod + Cham = Ber

something like that

If they make a runeword with zod i hope that it is an armor. One rw weapon with zod is Botd alredy

need less overpowered runewords more useful lvl 60-70 runewords. This game is way too easy, Ubers are not even close to a challenge anymore to veteran players. Be nice if they nerfed Battle orders and gave certain bosses more health too, we veterans could use a challenge. I always use runewords like smoke, kingslayer, duress they need morecool ones like that less overpowerd garbage like enigma

Nerf battle orders? So you want to make the Barbarian even more unbalanced? LOL

Nerfing battle orders will bring balance to the game wtf you talking about? i have played this 20 years , too much damn life man the game is way too easy have you seen an 8 player game mow through baal runs like its normal difficulty with 5 thousand health pools its stupid. Would make the game more challenging , 5 thousand life is just stupid.

Have you ever made a barb with 1 point in battle orders? they work just fine barbs already have tons of life before BO

Ber + Ber + Flawless Sapphire = Jah in the cube already, so it wouldn’t make any sense at all for a new recipe to be Zod + Zod = Jah. Taking the rarest rune (by drop rate) in the game and then cubing 2 of them to make a more common rune is not a good idea at all. this same thing applies to your idea for Zod + Cham = Ber because Sur + Sur + Flawless Amethyst = Ber.

The whole reason the OP’s idea is interesting is because it increases the value of Zod because it respects Zod’s rarity and adds extreme utility to it. By doing so, it pulls up the value of Cham. Your idea just relegates Zod to being a rarer and harder to find Sur rune.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been playing the game, but since you bring it up I’ve been playing since D1.

Regardless, it’s idiotic to nerf one of the CORE building blocks for a particular character (barbarian). 5k life? If you’re referring to the Barbarian, what difference does it make how much life its got when 90% of those same barbs are doing nothing more then sitting in the back row, while everyone else is killing mobs/bosses? I’d be willing to bet the Sorceress, Paladin, Amazon and every other class enjoys the bonus to life as they are usually the ones doing the work.

So tired of the so called “veterans” wanting more of a challenge but only at the behest of nerfing existing skills or items. If you want a challenge, then build a challenging character to play the game with, it’s literally that simple. This mentality of “what’s good for 1 is good for all” is ignorant.

Diablo 1 is amazing played it in 1996 and own it on GOG and still play it!!

BO was nerfed successfully in Path of Diablo and PD2 online community mods and it brought a more challenging experience and more balance to the game. Thank you and goodnight , yes experience and skill in the game do mean something you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. There is literally zero challenge in diablo 2 end game wise , taking away massive life pools could help this problem.

To me, some of the arguments against this would be:

  • Adding this effectively acknowledges that Zod is less valuable than other high runes, and can feel like a cop-out to actually adding rune words to make Zod more valuable in its own right

  • Some players may feel that the current supply/demand of high runes is in a good place, and having, say, 80% of Zods get turned into Ber would distort this too much

While I feel these cube recipes are still a good idea, I think these are valid positions and I could understand if the devs side with such players. That said, my response would be:

  • Adding new Zod rune words can still happen even if these cube recipes are added. Given how helpful this would be in single player I think it’s still good to give players a choice of how to use a Zod they find (although I only play multiplayer).

  • If they add rune words that increase the demand for Zod fewer will be cubed into other runes, so in the long run the increased supply of other high runes may be minimal.

These ideas are probably going to be relatively useless since they already said they’re going to make new runewords, presumably requiring runes that have less utility. Assuming they’re worth making, asking them to do all this might be an overreaction.

I guess because you say so, it makes it true for everyone then… lmao

I know its a different discussion altogether, but to make Zod more attractive, you simply have to get rid of Grief.

The seperate Grief argument is that not many will use BOTD as Grief is more damage. My argument to fix this is to make 2x Zod = Lo with Lo being the rarest rune.

I feel thats the fix for this argument as well. Zod is already great for eth items as previously identified, to make it great for runewords too, we need to see less Lo runes.

They could just implement recipes that allow higher runes to be split down into lower runes in the same way low runes can be cubed up, only in reverse.

That’s one way to do it, but it’s entirely unnecessary and not the right thing to do. Making Lo the rarest rune, also negatively impacts Fortitude, which was already effectively nerfed when the ebug was changed. Making Lo the rarest rune in the game would also have downstream impacts to the balance and value of Chains of Honor and Enigma.

Furthermore, if I’m following your idea correctly, your proposal takes Lo from being above Ohm and puts it to above Zod, so then everything else between Ohm and Zod moves down one slot, so now Ohm+Ohm+Diamond=Sur? From there, the rest of the transmute table changes slightly, but the implications are huge, because the value of everything drops dramatically. The drop rates then change as well, because now there is a gap in the table where Lo used to be, and if you cascade everything down, now Ber and Jah are easier to find. Some people will rejoice, but the game economy is significantly changed. The change of having an Ohm rune be 1/4 of a Ber is so significant that it’s hard to even consider how many Enigmas and Infinities would be floating around.

Put simply there is no reason to make such a complex change when the far easier and far better change is just to bring other melee rune words like Breath of the Dying and Last Wish up to par with Grief. Make the other melee weapons more attractive, specifically as good as their cost demands they should be and people would use them.

First, runes drop rate needs to be buffed.
Second, runes drop rate need to be buffed.
The end.

Need is a strong word to use to describe the drop rate of video game drop rates.

I like the idea of more Rune transfomation options, but i think this would make Zod too valuable.

I prefer something like:

Any rune+3perfects Skulls = A random rune with -2 to +2 ranking range.

So, u would hv a chance to transform a Lo into a Ber, but hv the same chance to make it a Vex.

And it will raise the value of Cham since it could only be transformed into a Ber, a Jah or a Zod.
