Suggestion to allow another shield to be able to get 4 sockets

Removing high stat requirements to obtain better items would be incredibly unhealthy for the game.

If you really look at it characters such as the sorcress do not need max block just high enough defense to take hits without being put into hit recovery or block recovery due to the fact that they are not usually taking part in close quarters combat that is why the troll nest is the best option for a spirit for characters that do not really need max block chance

hit recovery only really affects characters that are likely to get hit really hard by enemies in CQC because hit recovery only comes into play if you take damage equal to or greater than 1/12 of your max hp which rarely happens outside of CQC ranges so the higher defense that the troll nest offers is enough for a character that is outside of CQC range a majority of the time

Technically spirit has 25%-35% FCR which is a range of 5%-15% over the guarenteed 20% on lidless wall My sorc teleports just as fast with lidless equipped as she does with a 35% FCR Spirit Monarch therefore the additional 15% FCR from Spirit really makes verry little difference however on other classes that same added 15% FCR difference would actually be way more noticeable other classes outside the sorceress also might actually need more strength for other pieces of equipment I think that the 106 str for the troll nest is high enough for a sorceress as most of the other gear that in commonly used has strength requirements of between 100 and 106 as 106 is needed for an Archon Plate if you are going to use fortitude or another runeword such as CoH that are commonly made in an Archon Plate

no, go away now 20 char

Keep in mind that a lot of the body armor runewords are used way more often than spirit

If you can put a powerful runeword into a chest plate that only has a strength requiement of 106 why should you need 156 for a monarch to use spirit when most of the chest plate runewords are useful in many more ways than Spitit.

this is saying that Spirit is more powerful than chest plate runewords like Chains of Honor, Fortitude, and Enigma which can all be put into an item that only requires 106 Strength

that is another reason why I say the troll nest would be a good option for an increase from max 3 sockets to max 4 sockets

I can explain it, because claws only take up 1x3 inventory space, means they can only get 3 sockets

You can put enigma in a 30 str armor, that doesn’t matter at all. You have no point here.

If trollnest would have 4 sockets, nobody would use monarchs anymore. It won’t happen and that’s ok.

Odin No one is going to make enigma in a 30 strength armor so where is your point

Also what is the point of putting Enigma in a 30 str armor (Breast Plate) whei the runeword requires level 65 to equip due to the Jah rune

Some like the look and def doesn’t matter a lot. Mageplate is the preferred enigma armor since str bug was removed until people have torches annis and jewelry to use dusk shrouds.

Please learn more about the game

Mage Plate is decent for a piece of armor that only requires 55 str however I would say Dusk Shroud is also decent and only requires 77 str (22 more than the mage plate) when most other gear you use might need up to or more than 100 str.

If you do not care about defense then you obviously are not putting into concideration the fact that your defense is the first step in determining the amount of damage your character will take when hit by an attack that deals physical damage.

The defense stat is your characters first line of physical damage resistance. When the game determines how much damage you will take from an attack that deals physical damage your characters defense stat is the first thing the game looks at.

Keep in mind that higher strength means nothing for a caster such as a hammer paladin, trap assassin, or sorceress as strength only increases base physical weapon damage. Dexterity is the stat that affects your defense however some classes also do not need high dexterity as they do not need max block just the ability to have hit recovery trigger as little as possible when they take physical damage hits

You have nerve to talk about a bug then tell me to learn more about a game I have been playing for 20+ years. you are the one who needs to learn more about the way the game calculates things and why defense is actually an important stat

That tells everything about your game knowledge. Defense is the least valuable survival stat you can have. 400 def doesn’t make a difference at endgame gear.

Only classes that can have reasonable def are barb and paladin and that’s only a thing in melee duels.

20 years and you still know nothing. Good job buddy

Strength also has verry little purpose on a caster class such as the sorceress or caster build such as the hammerdin those 2 examples normally only get enough str to equip their gear and no more and hammerdin is actually a pretty bad example due to the fact that all elite paladin class exclusive shields have a lower strength requirement than a monarch 3 of the 5 have minimum defense that is higher the the monarchs maximum defense, and all 5 of them can get 4 sockets.

By the way dex increases defense and defense determines the chance that enemies have to hit you therefore higher defense making the enemies hit you less often means that you do not need to block attacks as much and block chance only means something if he enemies are actually hitting you a lot keep in mind that you do take damage even if you successfully block attacks and defense also determines the total amount of damage you take reguardless of weather or not you block an attack

Keep in mind that only a paladin can easily achieve a max block rate of 75% due to the holy shield skill which also increases their defense

Barbarians ar not really relevant due to the fact that they generally use higher defense armor due to most of the builds using either a 2-handed weapon or dual-wielding weapons and they also have an ability that further increases their defense this means they do not use a shield although a ww barb can use certain 2-handed swords with a shield or second weapon they typically don’t as the weapon deals less damage with another weapon or shield equipped

no

Don’t need another dominant shield.

I guess we should just ask for dual wielding shield barbs at this point.

what do you actually mean dominant shield monarch is less dominant than than paladin shields because Paladin shields not only can get 4 sockets but they can also roll with up to +45% resist all on a non magical base item which no other shield can get as a non magical base item and all elite pally shields have a lower strength requirement than a monarch as a matter of fact the sacred targe only has a strength requirement of 86 which is lower than the troll nest which requires 106 strength

This is not about a dominant shield it is about having a secondary option for stat point distribution seeing as most builds only need 106 strength to equip their highest strength piece of gear this allows for an additional 50 attribute points to be put into an attribute other than strength

The reason that the monarch seems to be dominant is because it is the only good option for 4 socket shield runewords that all characters can equip. Another Option that is viable not dominant.

I could go as far as to say make dragon shields (the exceptional shield in the monarch family) able to have 4 sockets as Spirit is a runeword that seems to be designed to benefit characters from level 25 on as the highest rune in it only requires level 25. I also see the benifits of this runeword to be more beneficial for the mid game as most builds need the resist and additional mana at those points more than a late game character needs it as late game characters have a lot more ways to boost resist and mana than mid game characters do as most of the top tier items require level 60 or higher to equip and have either a +all risist and/or a bonus to mana as well as the fact that the late game characters have a conciderably base mana pool and also other ways to regen their mana, boost skill levels, boost cast rate, and boost resists.

Dragon Shields carry the same level requirement as the Amn Rune at 25

Level 25 characters only have 3 items that give + to all skills and those are Spirit Crystal Sword, Sions shield, and Tarn helm. and only the spirit has a mana bonus and no resist from anything. I do not see why we cannot have at least the dragon shield be able to get 3 sockets as there are only really 2 classes that might use a monarch and they are Sorceress and possibly an elemental druid
