I’m not sure if this is a bug or my system… but everytime i play diablo 2 I play fine for like 20 minutes then the game begins to stutter audio double samples and then it inevitably crashes. This is consistent. I meet all the recommended computer specs of the game and should have 0 issues playing it at all. Any information regarding what i can do on my end to solve this would be delightful… things ive tried
-Downloading the latest drivers for my Gforce RTX graphics card.
- lowering the settings to low.
- turning off NVidia DSSL
- Making sure all Nvidia graphics settings are default
- made sure all 16gbs of RAM were accessible.
- turned off any backgrounds apps that are not deemed necessary by the system.
A wild guess, but try disabling sound reverb in the game audio settings. Also try turning the number of audio voices down.
If you’re running on-board audio, chances are it’s Realtek audio, which has a limited number of hardware voice channels, which I believe is 32 voices (16 stereo). If a game or program is trying to play more than 16 stereo audio samples, your CPU must do post-processing to mix audio samples together in order for your audio device to play them in the hardware voice channels it has available. If there is a significant amount of post-processing for mixing a large number of audio samples, it can result in frame stuttering and sound artifacts like rapidly repeating sounds. In a nutshell, the CPU can’t keep up with trying to keep the audio playback in real-time.
Reverb adds an environmental echo effect for each sound, which can significantly increase the number of audio samples that are playing.

If that doesn’t work also make sure you cap the game FPS. Lowering settings might just be causing it to render even more frames in the background.
