Well, here’s the dumbest possible way to die in D2R Hardcore.
Level 76 Summoner Necro running the Tower in Hell difficulty, got my nice 27-being army working for me, had pretty much breezed through all the content prior to this.
So here’s the situation – I’m in the Tower behind one of those 1-being wide doorways (the ones that your army has a hard time getting through because the skeletons and the Fire Golem always seem to get in each others’ way).
So I figure that I have to lead them through the doorway (after all… they’re not the smartest of things). I walk through the door and see a bunch of Carvers with the Fanaticism aura on them.
“Oh great!” I say to myself, “After all, my A3 Merc has the ‘Hustle’ runeword sword (which gives the Fanaticism aura), and I’ve been reviving lots of Carvers down here… he must be on MY side (famous last words, eh)”.
And in fact, there were lots of friendly Carvers with Fanaticism, on the far side of the doorway. Unfortunately there were also several UNfriendly ones… one of whom decided to promptly 2-shot me, resulting in the dreaded “Deeds” screen faster than you can say, “where is my IFF transponder when I need one?”.
I really should have saved and exited; I did try to chug a Full Rejuve but I suppose it must have been working when the hostile Carver hit me the second time (I had over 850 hit points and good resists, BTW).
So there we have it for the end of LS 7, folks – “killed by a Carver by means of mistaken identity”.
I think I’ll make a Paladin for LS 8.

If no Enigma, a staff or amulet with teleport charges is essential for a summoner.

I enjoy reading your tale to your demise. As I only play hc. Theres a lot of things you can do to keep you safer, some simple ones are damage reduction gear, and that can be 70 regular or 50% or more for when your cursed. high block ability, and also high armour alone while in walking mode can negate so many attacks its insane, another thing is not fighting while cursed. necro has bone armour which reduces damage received by a flat number of damage, hit 800 wouldn’t be hard or even 2k. lots of things to do, try. the necro does have some summons, if you can’t get your summons to explore for you naturally, resummon a golem in the direction you want to explore, so that the mobs will attack the golem and then your army will attack the new known monster, also a way to stay out of danger’s way. food for thought. some tips and tricks, hopefully useful for your next playthrough. sin and barb are probably the most naturally skilled players for hc. May take some research and learning but I would say those 2 far out do the others in survivability.

I blame the Fire Golem with its high mana cost.
Shoudda went basic, checked the rooms with Clay Golem. Clay bro don’t do much but he basics better than anybody.
R.I.P.
And your deeds will be remembered!
They live on on these forums until they get shut down.
N.B. I actually DID have a staff with Teleport charges, on switch. However I got hit and killed so fast that I had next to zero time in which to react.
Keep in mind, similar situations had been encountered by my Necro, (literally) many-score times, prior to this unfortunate event. The other, like, 59 out of 60, had worked out just fine.
This one, of course… didn’t.
I HATE Carvers! (Especially the ones that pretend that they’re in my army.)
On last day of ladder too…. This is the Diablo version of “damn…He was one day from retirement…”
