So evade doesnt actualy works against melee attacks?

Zax we have a jabzon in our melee ranks (gm melee pvp), forum user here, dunsteather, evade works very well against my conc barb and zeal palies, my man has lvl 45-50 evade depending on build and in 10-15 swings I might get 1 or 2 hits. It’s a rng fest dueling the jabzon with evade

The maker of this thread are claiming and arguing Spirit are not overpowered and Prayer merc will now become very strong now with introdcution of Cure runeword due to it’s significant healing. :sweat_smile: :sweat_smile: :sweat_smile:

You seem like kind of an idiot. Spirit isn’t overpowered (just strong; problem is there are no other +2 skill shields) and Prayer makes might in fact be strong with the synergy to Cure, though I think I’d still rather have a different aura. Too bad a Might armor didn’t get put in.

I’ll try to break it down for you. My apologies if I can’t find a crayon. A decently leveled Act 2 Combat merc can get +18 prayer aura. Prayer is a synergy for Cleansing Aura. So right away you’re getting a Cleansing aura with +22 life per second, and significantly makes you highly resistant to poison AND curses. But here’s the good part. Prayer is also a synergy to Meditation, so if your merc is using Insight, so you’re getting a ton more +mana regen as well as resistance to poison and curse(s). Curses and poison will be rapidly removed.

The problem with this hypothetical is you’ll need Life steal on armor, which isn’t impossible to get (I think there are three or four), so you’ll have to give up Treachery AND might aura, so merc IAS and damage may be too low to keep him alive. A Chains of Honor might solve everything. Dunno, but in theory, if Curses and poison really slow you down and sustain is a problem, a Prayer merc might work, particularly if your merc has that Chains of Honor for the Life, +2 skills, and Damage reduction.

But here’s the part you really start to look stupid. Not everyone in group needs a might merc. Not everyone needs to have Infinity on their hireling.

It’s totally possible if you play with a stable group of people, the optimal strategy might being having 3 Act 2 mercs, each carrying Might, Holy Freeze, and Prayer/Cleansing/Meditation aura.

it would still be op if it was 1+ skill.
it still has 55 f’ing fhr, 35 fcr, 22 vita, insane resist, insane mana.

using a spirit has little to no drawback. Choice is simple for all casters. use cheap runeword spirit that is best in slot.

Again, you seem to think you have some kind of argument. it’s a little strange. Wanna guess how popular Spirit shield is in PD2?

It’s not. Part of this is because a lot of shields were made comparable to Spirit…and then Spirit was nerfed. So now it sees no use, except the very beginning when +2 Lidless is in short supply.

Which sounds balanced?

You think the devs will ever do that for this game? No. The players would whine.

As long as spirit exists as is melee needs a comparable analog

Easy to get runes from act1 NM, required level 25 and not only make ALL other items for ALL casters and builds obsolete and so extremely strong it in fact hold so strong in many cases only best in slot end-game items can replace it and in some cases even best in slot end-game item. Are not overpowered…

Followed by arguing one of the worst and most useless skills in the game, Prayer, will be strong and good now because you can get 3x heal instead of 2x heal. In exchange for gear setup that will make the merc weak and die in Hell…

spirit is definitely overpowered. every caster build builds it and uses it in the endgame, some of those use two spirits and only replace it once they have hoto, a hr runeword. the weapon is definitely overpowered. the shield is overpowered purely because there are literally 0 good caster shields. the next one is lidless and it offers pretty poor stats relative to any other slot of caster gear.

there’s no low level overpowered item similar to spirit for melee. but spirit is a plague on the game, i would prefer to take the higher road and nerf spirit rather than introduce something similar for melee. a lot of people are very anti-nerf and only want to power creep the game, so its probably more likely to get a melee-version of spirit. but hopefully the devs can at least prevent this game from turning into every other arpg in existence
