Season 4 - Buff 10 Nostalgic Uniques

For Season 4, I urge the developers to consider buffing 10 uniques that represent lore, nostalgia, and rarity with items such as:

1. Tyrael’s Might

Justification: rarest item in D2. It’s a sacred armor with a TC 87 and named after the Archangel of Justice. Tyrael, who is found in-game and is part of the Angiris Council, the ruling body of the High Heavens. It is an extremely rare item, yet so useless (primary use is a trophy item).

2. Arkaine’s Valor

Justification: ancient hero Arkaine who turned the tide of the Sin War and drove demons back to the Burning Hells. Those who played D1 remembers this was one of the best armors the player could obtain, yet in D2, easily falls behind compared to Chains of Honor, Enigma, and Fortitude.

Justification: extremely rare staff, having Asian-themed name. Unfortunately, this item is largely invalidated by the Spirit runeword.

4. The Grandfather

Justification: iconic legendary sword that harkens back to good ole days of Diablo II. Now, it’s a slow sword that is lacking useful end game attributes like Crushing Blow. It gets full style points though.

5. The Cranium Basher

Justification: mighty thunder maul of Thor. It’s truly a shame this item is rather lackluster, especially with a slow attack speed and very high level requirement.

Justification: created by Tyrael and wielded by Izual during the assault on Hellforge to delay forging of Shadowfang.

Justification: originally part of a quest from pre-release Diablo, where player was tasked to slay demon Fleshdoom and retrieve his demonblade.

Justification: named after Archbishop Lazarus and was an ambassador from the Zakarum Church and advisor to King Leoric.

Love the time and attention to detail in this post. I agree 1000%, make the great uniques, great again!

Include Windforce as well to compete with Faith.

Add Concentration Aura
Buff 20% to 30-40% IAS
350% ED up from 250%
Ignore Targets Defence.

Yeah, I could see that being a nice change. Right now, in terms of raw damage, we have a significant buff to min damage, ED, and bonus strength… not to mention doubling IAS. :stuck_out_tongue:

It would be nice if the developers could re-tune and buff atleast 10 uniques per Season. This would breathe new life into the item hunt and shake things up in terms of trading.

Speaking of Nostagia I would also add WF, Gaze and Shaft on a list. They’re maybe not connected to lore but are legends of pre-runeword D2.

They need to throw out the new graphic for Skull helmets and render them closer to the OG. Vamp Gaze was the coolest helm you could toss on, with that teal color and the downward horns.
The current model is terrible.

Completely agree, I’m just trying to keep the list manageable so it has a sliver of hope of being implemented instead of being dead on arrival request. It would be fun if the devs re-tuned and buffed 10 uniques per Season. :grinning:

I dont think that proposed change is enoigh honestly, it need dmg reductions, mana / life resist. Basicly more defensive abilities to compensate for shield.

Grandfather change is nice. But i dont agree with lower level. Well grief if lower level too but i dont agree with that either :slight_smile:

You made it better but i feel like it need something more. Some non dmg related stuff. Why not add MF? LIFE? For example.

Yeah, I really like the -100% requirements on Azurewrath that mirrors Tyrael’s Might, feels very fitting.

But you said what most of us think. We need certain uniques to shine again. They were neglected by Blizzard in 1.10. As a matter of fact they have history of revamping sets and changing uniques. 1.08 Gaze vs 1.09 Gaze as example.

Completely agree. Uniques are dated and in bad shape. With all these new runewords, uniques will become extinct and all we will be using are runewords for Seasons to come.

I also agree, this one needs more. Otherwise, why would anyone swap from hoto/spirit, or even a +5 orb+spirit, for it other than, why not for a bit.

I feel it needs to be so OP that its worth finding and using.

Change to 80% FCR
add an aura… Conviction would be crazy, but it is rare, or Salvation?

I should want to hunt this thing and if I find it, actually use it with some pride, not sit in my inventory like it currently is, unidentified.

the iconic underwhelming ik set what a shame
i add 200 ed to mak ethe mace more valuable , the 4 socket is because before you only have too put 2 sheal rune and cap the ww break point with 80 ias . sadlt after the massive ww nerf this maul need 125 ias and you dont ww to 4 frame anymore , but 5 frame . so 40ias from the maul +4xsheal rune= 80 mean 40+80 =120 you are still not reaching ww break point compare before with 80 . i think these change will put back the ik pride and glory of the ik barbarian on the map well deserve the set look good also the armor is hard too find

Can you please show what your changes are (proposed buffs listed at bottom of item stats) similar to how we did it (easier on the reader) and re-post your ideas in the thread below?

Not bad… But as I said, I feel that it needs to be more powerful than the weapon/shield option, otherwise, other than “for the hell of it” why would you use it as a meta?

Currently, with a Hoto or even +5 orb/ Spirit, thats up to 75% FCR. +7 Skills, so that matches up, but I would put a range of say, +6-+8 roll.

Rest is looking good. Big pipe dream, but it would be nice for some of these uniques, like Mang Songs, to really step up and rival the current meta options out there.

Agreed. I think a roll from +6-8 to skills and a roll from 70-80% FCR would make finding a near perfect Mang Song’s Lesson really exciting…
