Scammed sad-kon

Things really don’t work that way, there has to be either a password leak, a phishing email, sabotaged hardware, or a vulnerability in code to allow stuff like that to happen.

Just typing away at a dos prompt doesn’t get you very far these days. TV really makes hacking look exciting but it’s not heh.

When I made this, I did not expect a war…

lmao why do you think a programming source code like d2’s that has been around for 20 years is iron clad? you don’t think someone has already looked thru it and found a way to do what they want. i mean it’s been 20 years someone probably has been thru all the code already. if you think it’s iron clad code then explain to me how bots get into the game and use pickit and maphack? you think blizzard employees can be trusted? especially disgruntled former employees that are suing blizzard for sexual harassment can be trusted with what they already know?

Yes they have. D2 also has means to directly connect to other player’s PCs. That code is very much a liability.

D2R is hosted on modern Bnet in which individual players have no direct connection to each other and no access to IP information for another player.

Running bots is client side - and does not touch another player’s PC or data. It is not relevant to this discussion.

You can’t DDoS or install a virus via Blizzard’s modern games. Period. Imagine the millions it would have happened to if someone could.

They are instead forced to trick people into using less secure chat programs, websites, etc that reveal an IP address or get a user to give info. Click on something that installs malware, etc.

The people who were abused are rightfully upset with their former colleagues and management. They are not angry at players and not running around with a drive of player IP addresses. As screwed up as many things at ATVI are, Blizzard has managed not to have any breaches of personal information (names, credit card numbers, phone numbers, addresses, etc.). Unlike the Govt or nearly every other major company.

lol ok… iron clad code got it… not even bill gates can break blizzard code… iron clad ok

Lol, esp not him. He is an old retired guy who has not worked in tech for a LONG time. He left Microsoft long ago.

Nobody is saying that code is unbreakable. Of course anything eventually is in theory.

What I was saying was you are not getting the IP address or access to my computer (or another player) via modern Blizzard games. Your revenge scenario is unrealistic.

There are actually easy ways to get people’s info - or to get malware on their machines. Phishing, insecure chat programs, websites, etc.

Blizzard’s games are not that method though. People don’t have to worry about someone getting angry at them and harming their PC via the game. They just have to NEVER click any links or go to any websites said angry person tries to send them to.

Why the hell did you continue after you dropped first item?

Any game with open trade… Assume everyone is out to rob you blind until they prove otherwise… And even if proven, still keep an eye on them. Following an unknown individuals instructions can be a ruse.

If I recall correctly you were saying you are not that tech savvy a few months back (might have already been a year, how time flies haha), but you responded the same way I was about to, to his comments, seems you have done some studying since then, good answers

Don’t worry it’s just how it is. Whether this thread or another it’s inevitable. Good luck in game though

I agree with pretty much everything you have said and seem knowledgeable. Blizz games NEED to be safe for the very reasons you listed.

My question is in WoW Arena how does the opposing team DDOS you in a match? Is that something client side with hacks and code? How can they localize those DDOS to just effect you? The parameters of Arena or something? I actually should look up DDOS to know more about it and how it happens. However just assumed they were targeting you specifically somehow which is why I ask. Thanks.

They can’t do a targeted denial of service attack on a player because they can’t get their IP address to flood it with requests. WoW does have a lot of data that it passes around though, esp if there are Addons involved. In theory, if the data being passed causes someone’s computer to bog down then that is similar. That can be from spell effects, etc.

IF someone were to get on a chat service though outside the game, that can expose their IP address and make them vulnerable.

I only… dropped 1 though?

:frowning: what’s Ctrl click scam?

When we were kids playing this game my friend used my account and someone got him to download a “MF boost program”

He ran it and it clicked all my items and threw them on the ground :joy:

I’m not pro-scamming, but how could you say you want the item removed and a ban issued when half of the loot obtainment system is designed around following a paladin through chaos sanctuary (if you aren’t one yourself) and “stealing” the drops.

Why did you say you drop anything then?

OP -what did u drop? Just curious, often if you say you lost something worth Mal/Um or less people will flat out give it to you. Hell i gave an Ist away just because the guy was doing great baal runs for me.
