[request] remove re-spec "QoL"

Re-spec is an OPTION.
If you don’t like the option, simply don’t use it.

https://diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Patch_1.13c_(Diablo_II)

I think comparing the original D2 to WoW skill trees should make clear which intends a re-spec system and which does not.

In D2 we can spec into higher level skills based on character level

In WoW we can spec into higher level skills based on skill tree level

WoW skill trees had re-spec in mind, which D2 clearly did not.

The wiki on front page also says it was added in 2009, which is super cool…we found an inconsistency, this much later! haha, you guys are correct, the wiki is just wrong on the front page for respecs.

I feel like for ladder characters, yes the Respec QoL should be romoved, however for non ladder characters, I think it should be unlimited or have some kind of cap.

Agreed :stuck_out_tongue: (grabbing on straws here)

So you want to reinstate one of the most unpopular features of the game that was changed years ago due to overwhelming feedback of the D2 playerbase. Let’s not.

actual article on the patch release. Note 11 years ago at top. 2021-11 = 2010.

Who’s going to tell him? This feature wasn’t added until 2010. Prime D2 LoD was done by the end of 2006 at the latest. So being a no change person on this topic would be ignorant at best. However, this person has it all wrong removing it would be wrong. It needs to be upgraded to modern day gamers, not removed.

Respec is fine. I would even make it so you can respec unlimited amount of times for free or small gold cost.

I remember the year pretty well too, since 2010 is when White Knight Chronicles PS3 launched, and I was playing it as well as this D2 patch.

Go launch your D2/D2 LoD Classic, respec is in there and has been in there for a long time now. This is not a QoL thing, it’s been in the base game for quite awhile.

You can, it’s called “Token of Absolution”
1 Green Essence (Drops on Duriel/Andy)
1 Blue Essence (Drops on all)
1 Yellow Essence (Drops off Meph)
1 Red Essence (Drops on Diablo and Baal)

These all expect blue have low chance of dropping as well.

If you don’t want re-specs, don’t use them. They’ve been in D2 for years.

Please lets stop with this myth. I don’t know why people wanna say or think that D2 is a “hard” game, or non casual game, because is not, is indeed quite easy.
Mechanics are easy, combat system is easy, progression is easy and streamlined, quests are easy, boss fight are easy. I mean, only thing you have to do is to go a little bit over level and you will have 0 problems guaranteed to kills bosses or every act, even with crappy gear or weird builds.

Sure, being able to make a “cool” speed run or complete ur holy grail may take practice and patience, but is not “hard”, you dont need insane reaction times or combination of attacks and making decisions in less than a second, or multitasking and making hundreds of CPM as if you were playing a tournament of starcraft against a Korean…

Diablo 2 IS a casual game that people for some reason have given a false image of being “hard and not for casuals” in the recent years, and I quite don’t understand why. Theres nothing wrong on a semi easy game to have fun. The fun is within the journey. Of course, when it comes to skills selection, without the re-spec you can screw big time and have to create a new char from zero, but this is only if you wanna do players 8 or something and you need every point to count.
Thats why i think re-spec is necessary and healthy, damn i even have click the wrong spell just by mistake coz i was focusing on my cat jumping near me…

It does make normal/nightmare trivial.

But its part of the “original” game.
I personally thought the game was at its peak when lod first came out.

Again, I am not arguing for wrongly skilling or putting stats but purposely keeping stat and/or skill points for later use.
To fix wrongly skilling you can simply add an option to confirm choices before applying them.

Re-spec is trivializing certain choices and makes progress towards certain builds easier. Other than that, what constitutes easy or hard is relative but “easier” still applies.

Just don’t use it if it bothers you that much?

…serious you’re complaining about something that doesn’t affect you at all unless you want it to.

Looking for something to complain about?

No use in trying to ask to make the game more challenging, people here are used to being babied from Blizzards other games. I agree removing specs would make early game feel challenging and engaging to the player (as it once did). Now its just hurr durr I max charge bolt, hurr durr I delete mobs, respec time! It’s like holding hands and sing Kumbaya mode vs playing a game made for men. It’s stop and think for a moment vs complete brainless mode, it’s that simple.

Dude, lmao
