[REPORT] Extended screen range

They would still see you before you see them.

If they embrace 21:9 then it should be embraced for all monitors, not just those who have spent money for the hardware.

You should be able to see the 21:9 range on a 16:9 monitor with black bars to minimize the advantage.

They could show the same horizontal distance as a 16:9 monitor - you’d just be missing the top and bottom bits.

If you don’t think that would be fair, then explain how that is any less fair than doing the opposite where a 16:9 monitor sees a cropped version of the 21:9 field of view.

In the end, field of view is whatever they want it to be. There is no reason to tie the maximum field of view to the monitor aspect ratio. Pick one, and let every player choose whether to fill their screen and not see it all, or scale it so they can see it all, but with black bars.

If it is down to “people with a 21:9 monitor fill their monitors better than 16:9 players, but see the exact same game distance” then it is quite fair.

Even better, provide PvP arenas for various popular monitor ratios and allow any player choosing any of them to decide how to scale that ratio to their hardware. If you have a 21:9 and the 21:9 arenas aren’t very popular, then you can join a 16:9 arena and accept either black bars or vertical cropping.

And vice versa - if you have a 16:9 monitor then choose the 16:9 arenas or join another arena and choose the scaling mode you want.

Okay but youre in the extreme minority with that monitor… the majority are 16:9. The plan should not be to force the majority to go buy new monitors for it to be fair. That’s a stupid suggestion. No one cares how much they are or what you do or have. It needs to be fair for everyone on release regardless of the setup you have, just like it was for normal d2. Go back to d3 if you cant understand this…

The game mechanics do not support ultrawide.
hard to understand?

Monitor ultrawide is worse than if using MH
Practically a cheat in PvM and PVP

Or does anyone think it’s normal to hit a monster that can’t fight back?
Change act with 3 teleports

This is bizarre

There is an easy way to fix this issue for 21:9 / 24:10 / 32:9 / 32:10.
I doubt that they will massively crop the image, in terms of aesthetics for such ratios.
We’d need horizontal/vertical maximum break points(aka maximum Field of view), that a 16:9 monitor user is able to zoom out to match the vision of an 32:10 monitor user. We’d need a dynamic scaling overlay, to keep the beauty of the game (even its smaller :o) )

That would negate the gameplay advantage of 32:10 users for pvp.
If you’d play for the graphics in normal PVM, then zoom in, until the dynamic overlay fits to your screen and enjoy.

I absolutely agree with DHA on this one. This will break the game so much.

Imagine using an ultrawide monitor and killing all the bosses, all the monsters in the game without them responding. This would be like a Mephisto’s bridge abuse, but for each monster in the game.

And the PvP ofc - the same. You are just running around, spawning hammers, looking for your opponent but he has you namelocked and casts blizzard on your head?

For me, the second solution seems more or less acceptable. The cursor shouldn’t simply go further than for the players with the common monitor. Ofc this will provide vision and will be unfair in a lot of the duels but I think that is something that can be dealt with.

Simple solution would be to cap the distance of teleport and such to mirror the original.

You’d still be able to guided arrow with sniper accuracy

Not if you cap the distance it travels. Same concept he just explained.

Could be an issue where it makes GA too easy to dodge, too.

I think they’ll need a true fog of war to really make pvp viable. I don’t think a casting limit is enough.

Campaign: Make light radius great again!

I just bought the CRG9 Samsung to play this to… game looks epic on it 49"

I am going to rate this up there with people that say using voice chat in games is an unfair advantage… The argument is beyond silly… Also Ultrawide Monitors are NOT that expensive, if you just want a basic ultrawide screen LG makes them starting at 150 bucks NEW, you could get a referb one for less…

So ok people with 21:9 support have an unfair advantage…
next it’s people that have beyond recommended specs have unfair advantage because the game runs better.

How about people with better GPU then you because higher frame rate…

People with 3d audio …

Where do we draw the line because yeah while you can see people further and some of the spells will be able to hit further there has to be a line somewhere. FYI this was the same crap argument with people that omg people that had 800x600 has more resolution and can see more…

This isn’t just about pvp though, Sorcha.
It’s not okay to be able to kill monsters before they’re aggro’d.

It not just about 1 player having an advantage over another, it’s about the game not being fun anymore.

It’s not unfair it’s game breaking.

You compare voice chat with a view from Space ? Like seriously.

Im pretty sure you never d2 pvp else you would understand that the problem is obvious.

Here on Amazon LG 25UM58-P 149.99 ultrawide monitor…

I played a lot of D2 I understand the problem , I get it but I am not going to come to the forums and complain about blizzard supporting ultrawide monitors and claim it is unfair… Guess what YOU CAN GO BUY ONE…

Diablo II: Lord of Destruction will feature optional support for 800 x 600 video resolution. By installing the Expansion Set, players will have the option to play the game using 800 x 600 resolution in the original four Acts of Diablo II as well as in the new and final fifth act. Running the Expansion in the optional 800 x 600 mode displays a larger area around the player, giving a wider view of the battlefield, and the effect is striking! As frame-rates may vary, players should try it out to see how well it works on their individual systems. In some cases, players improve performance by switching to such video drivers as DirectDraw, Glide, or Direct3D.

The reason the first game was limited to 640x480 was do to people with weaker PC couldn’t run it as well in 800x600 by expansion they added 800x600 as an option , also there was a rumor they would have had to re do all the artwork for 800x600 which of course they did not.

No I was using the voice chat as a comparison, because yes people do say voice chat is an unfair advantage… So what so is people with better pc specs then you… Not everything in life is FAIR, I do understand the issue and yes I did play D2,

So I guess back in the day broadband was cheating because people on dialup were slower. At best this is a handicap. If you want to duel, you could always talk about ground rules for the duel etc…

I know all that.
Yes i can buy one but i won’t, you know why ? I feel like there no challenge to win a duel because i have more range than my opponent. I like the challenge, i want to win fair duels on both side else the game is pointless.

So I guess they should remove 7.1 audio because people with stereo have a clear disadvantage. Just like in D2 people that had Soundblaster or sound cards that supported open al had an advantage with spatial sound… If you want a fair duel then talk to the person you want to duel and lay rules.
