What makes you think that?
Lol I agree. Some immunities could make sense, like frozen horrors in act 5 being immune to cold. Or if a unique mob spawned with specific bonuses.
But the way everything arbitrarily gets one is bad design.
Itâs not fun gameplay skipping large areas of the game. When you finish nightmare and enter hell, you go from playing hack n slash diablo to playing a diablo themed NFL touchdown simulator, trying to run past everything without getting tagged.
I love D2 overall but also sadly realised I lose will to play when I reach Hell and would probably enjoy this part of game more without immunities. Skipping mobs is frustrating and not fun gameplay. Going hybrid damage is also dumb when you know Hammerdin or multiplayer characters donât have to do it.
Iâd like to try the game without immunities and there is a testing server for that to get players reaction. If most of people would hate it because âitâs not Diablo 2 anymoreâ then fine but PoE or Last Epoch being inspired by D2 didnât add immunities and are still succesfull and well received games.
I wouldnât mind elite packs having immunities. They are most valuable monsters to kill and can be skipped easier. White mobs being immune is just annoyance.
Wow, good analogy
To be honest I kinda like immunities when it comes to elemental/magic ones. Without them, for the likes of java and sorc, there is really no such thing as Hell difficulty (or difficulty at all). That being said I am not a fan of PI, but thats only because of Fury dudu. Bowa has MA, Barb has Zerk, dudu has⌠Reaper.
1- immunities arent fun and they deal with it
2- they dont remove the struggle from early game on dealing with immunities, from a ssf perspective as trading is dead/lame
The problem is damage immunities. Its bad in every RPG, as its tricky to build systems that beat it without it feeling awkward, clunky and all the other things your post points to.

Doesnât it feel weird when youâre doing fine with pure fire build then suddenly it becomes unplayable in Hell so you respec or ask for boost online until you get Sunder and not that easy to get -res items like Infinity then you can be pure fire again.
Regardless of whether it feels weird or not, itâs an activity, itâs something that the player must spend time doing in order to reach âend gameâ status⌠Time that would otherwise be spent in boredom doing nothing⌠Boredom might be the reason we play games in the first place.
When does a game reach the point where itâs perfect and canât be improved further? NEVER! It would NEVER end! There will ALWAYS be flaws no matter how much it is improved! Iâm sure even the ages old game of CHESS has room for improvement!
You think Blizzard is going to foot the bill for never-ending development of a game that doesnât make them any money?
Itâs almost like you have other options.

i dont run into this problem
i have always lvlup with dual element specs
maybe that would be a problem for a new player who is unaware of how immunities are on hell and nm
but there are no new players in d2r
